So I am planning n adopting 3 guinea pigs from the humane society as the gerbils just got adopted. I an going to make a c & c cage that is 16 sq feet of floorspace and has a ramp area/second floor that is 8 square feet of floorspace (i know ramp/second floor things do not count towards floorspace.)

My questions is..what do i feed my guinea pig. By that I mean what is the best brand of pellets, how much pellets do I feed per day, and how much veggies do i feed per day, i heard somewhere that i should feed 2 cups f veggies every day but I want some conformation

What I know: Guinea pigs should be fed pellets along with enough hay everyday that is a handful as large as there body, and they should be fed daily veggies. Tell me if any of this is wrong.

Hay is the most important part of their diet. It needs to make up 80% of their daily food intake.

they can then have one cup of vegetables per pig each day (ensuring high calcium abs sugary veg is kept limited and not fed more than once per week)

pellets are the least important part of the diet. They should have only one tablespoon of pellets per pig per day.

What brand(s?) do you reccomend for pellets, is there certain fiber protein and fat levels that should be acknowledged?

There is a guide for pellets if you go to the Food section of the forum. We’re UK based so don’t really know about the pellets available there. Hopefully someone from US can answer you.

You should avoid any that have alfalfa (lucerne). Most have fillers. They don’t need fat in their diet either.

Is the trio boars or sows? And how old are they?

:agr: please have a read of the diet and feeding guides.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! I live in Indiana and have driven through Lima several times to visit family.

I highly recommend reading the guide that was posted earlier. I feed my piggies Oxbow Essentials adult piggy food as that is what my exotic vet recommended.

Hi! Welcome! I give my two guinea pigs oxbow pellets. Be sure to give your pigs veggies with lots of vitamin c, as like humans, piggies can't make their own! Would love to see some pigtures once you get them! :D

Hay should be unlimited!
