I found one of my piggies dead last night and i still feel upset.

She was fine in the morning, dead in the evening. I feel guilty that i was at work at the time, i just wish i had been here for her 8...

sorry to hear about your loss. How old was she?

I had her for 14 months, the rescue estimated her to be 3 when i got her...
I just hope that it was a painless passing. I found her on her back, would this indicate anything? Like a fit/heart attack?

odd, could she have fallen from somewhere?

I don't really know, TBH.

Hope you can cope OK. How many others have you got? How are they?

So sorry to hear this, I've never found one on its back before, they usually just look like they're sleeping, so perhaps she had a heart attack or similar - sounds like it was very quick. At least she had a lovely time while she was with you. Unfortunately they often die without necessarily showing symptoms of illness, like you describe - fine in the morning, dead in the evening.

Hope you're ok - are your other piggies ok?

No, there isnt anywhere she could have fallen from.

She left behind 7 friends, who are all ok. She was literally flat on her back, maybe one of the others had nudged her over..

I have seen a piggie have a fit before (it survived) but was on its back at the time.

Poor Fudge 8...

I suppose that's possible.

Hope you are all coping OK.

Thanks for everyones concern. I just feel so guilty like i should have noticed something.

Like Sophie said, it happens often that they don't display any symptoms. I would concentrate on the good memories... You could try a threat on the Rainbow Bridge with pictures, it helped me lots when I lost Rene.

As guinea pigs are prey animals and would be hunted in the wild, they often don't show signs of illness until it's too late, as if they appeared weak a predator would pick them off - so they carry on seemingly as normal for as long as possible, which is why so many 'just die' without any noticeable symptoms. Don't blame yourself.

Heart attack, possibly a stroke, no previous illness, a quick death, the best way to go. Let's hope we go the same way when our turn comes.
