My Muffin had mange mites, shes been treated but as you know ive been away so my mum has been treating her, she looks so skinny, has massive dandruff type stuff and her hair comes away easily. she is raw in the places shes scratched and her once fluffy fur is now so thin. I dont know what to do, I'm so frightened she looks half dead. My mum said on the phone she'd just lost some hair but its far more than that. Also, when she scratches, as Ive had her on my bed for the last few hours, she falls over and is unable to get up, with her little feet flailing in the air :( i had to tip her the right way but how many times has this happened when I'm not there?
Worried Cat x 0:) :(

aww bless her :'( :smitten: I would try some GG stuff. if you e-mail chrissie, she's really helpful and knows a lot about skin problems, she'll be able to tell you if any of the GG stuff would help her :smitten: I don't know what to say about the falling? :-\ (((sending hugs for you and her, i'm sure she'll get better))) :-* Here's the GG website incase you don't know it O0 http://www.gorgeousguineas.com/index.html and if you click on the contact us bit, it'll tell you her e-mail addy O0

really hoping muffin gets better, the only thing that comes to mind with the falling over is maybe she has mites in her ear? like i said i am NO expert but just wanted to wish muffin luck and to send hugs and cuddles to you both :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: try not to worry i know easier said than done! the girls send muffin :-* :-* :-*

you could be right mary thats a very good point O0 can you get her to the vets in the next day or so? i think you need to tell them she's falling over and not really responding to the treatment O0

I would do as the others advised and take her back to the vet. If there is heavy white scurf on the skin it could well be a fungal infection. This falling over and flailing could also well be from the pain/irritation as pigs will have what appear to be seizures if there's a serious skin problem. Definitely contact Chrissie and see what she thinks as well as going back to the vet.

Any chance you could get a photo?

yeah, i know it's worrying :( ((((hugs))))) I'm sure with the right treatment she'll be fine soon :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

i agree with DSL with the falling.

when i got merlin, he had very bad fungal skin infection, and he did the falling thing too. he wouldnt let anyone touch him, if you did he would flail around screeching in pain. and when he scratched he would fall to one side as he tried so hard to scratch the itchy spot.

take her to the vet like said, and i recommend either the microneem or the coconeem melt from GG as i have used both before. microneem in my opinion is the best because its not as much of a hasstle as the melt, but if you message chrissie she will tell you which is best for you.

if you can get a pic of the hairloss/skin that can help too

i hope your piggy gets better soon :'(

Oh Cat i'm so sorry to hear about little Muffin :'( :'( :'(
Sending heaps and heaps of healing wheeks for the little girl :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Lots of (((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) for you too, i know how much you worry about your furbabies :( :( :( :( :(

hi all,
thankyou for all your lovely words, I took pictures then loaded them onto my laptop...then it broke. I'm scared as I have major work on there I need on wednesday. Muffin is doing ok, shes not herself but shes def got an appetite, so I can only see that as a good thing! Just made up a big playpen thing so they can run around for hours everyday with a pigloo, snack shack, cozy bits house vetbed, food etc. lol I thought they needed spoiling! Ill take some more piccies and put them on this comp when Muffin is awake (I think shes being snoozy in her snack shack!). I'm treating her but its back to the vets tommorrow

Also, I have been recommended Calendula cream which ive bought, and Nizoral shampoo. What do people think of these? i have Nizoral cream but that was for myself! Is it the same, as a temp measure or will it damage further?

Sorry to go on, I should have put this post in heath and illness :embarassed:

Cat x

calendula cream certainly can't do any harm, not sure about Nizoral :-\ my dad uses that LOL :D is it not possible to get some GG?
I just think that that would be better because it's more natural and meant for piggies O0 it really does work too ;)
The pen sounds great, i'd love to make something like that, but mine like running in my huge hall with toys and stuff for a couple of hours so i guess they don't really need it! :) ((((hugs))) i know it's tough when your little ones are suffering :smitten:

Hi there,
thanks, just another (!) question, coconeem from GG was advised but I got some coconut oil compound, its stuff you put on and wash off to sooth skin. The same?!
Cat x

i don't know :-\ i trust chrissie so, personally i'd go for the melt, but it's up to you. i don't think it's the same, because the ingredient that is probably the most helpful is the neem and the product you mentioned, wouldn't have that in O0

hoping muffin goes well at the vet tommorrow which is today oz time. love the sound of the run, just hope my girls won't read about it as they may want one. 2funny 2funny 2funny sending hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: and the girls send :-* :-* :-*

thinking of you today at the vets :-* hoping you manage to get her sorted :-* :-* :-* (((hugs))) :smitten:

Sorry Its taken a while my comp works now...these are the piccies, :'(

Theyre not great pictures, we're still applying the cream, what does everyone think?

Cat x 0:)

oooow! :'( poor little girl, thats really bad :'( i should defo see a vet again and i'd get some GG aswell. :'( poor sweetie, hoping she starts to improve soon. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:(((hugs and piggie kisses for you and her))) :smitten: :smitten: :-*

Aww poor little thing, that looks nasty :'( I'm not sure about the coconut oil compound to be honest, I've got a pot of the coconeem melt which I haven't used yet if you want it? I think Muffin is in need of it more than my two are :(

is that not mange mites? Should she be having ivermectin? sending healing wheeks to you and muffin x

bless her it looks fungal, i think. I'd definitely see a vet asap and e-mail chrissie from GG those pics, and explain to her what she's like and she'll be able to suggest what would help O0 her e-mail's [email protected]
she's been very helpful with my little Lilly these past few days, and she's very experienced O0 I really do think your poor little baby needs some treatment, vetrinary and GG :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I am almost positive that is a really, really bad fungal infection. Definitely get back to the vet urgently - you might need something if the pig has ingested fungal spores, though I don't have much experience with that. Absolutely use the Nizoral shampoo right away. You can use miconazole (Daktarin) cream on the ears if they're affected too.

okay, after i stopped getting the shivers after i saw the first picture xx0 :o am sending you hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send muffin :-* :-* :-* hope you take your baby to the vet and any cage mates and that she/they get better soon. take care thinking of you. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :-* :-* :-*

Shes going to the vet, I thought she was getting better, shes not. I'm crying as I type, shes my baby, I want to make her better, please pray for her or think of her, she doesnt desreve this :'(
Love Cat x

i am sending you all the hugs, prayers and good vibes i have sending them to you! really hoping the sweet angel gets better. good luck at the vets. :smitten: :smitten: hard i know but be strong as muffin needs you :-* :-* :-* please keep us posted. and hang in there! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Just remember to mention fungal to the vets. They're often so eager to pump them full of ivermectin and Baytril that they forget about things like fungal. I would see if you can get hold of a painkiller for your piggy too as that looks agony.

thinking and praying for you hunni, i'm sure she'll get there HUGE HUGS AND KISSES TO YOU AND HER! :smitten: :smitten: :-*

How's your little one doing? Hoping you've managed to get some treatment sorted out with the vets and maybe GG aswell?
HUGE HUGS :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: i'm praying for your little on and thinking of you :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hope she's doing better...fingers crossed for you both. You should follow DSL advice, if she's been treated for mites it's probably fungal :'( poor little thing
hugs for you both :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
