I am trying to find a rescue piggy to keep my lonely girl company but am really struggling to find one in my area, so I decided to try and contact the lady I had rescued my girl and mother from a few years ago only to see she is advertising guinea pigs she's breeding and some are very expensive. Surely this is wrong?why try and rehome "rescued" pigs and breed to sell at the same time?
Anyway I felt the need to rant, now I have done so my search will continue to find a guinea pig looking for a new home.

I can completely understand your frustration. Unfortunately our Rosie has been alone since Georgie passed over the bridge, as a relatively new member of the forum I didn't even know rescues solely for guinea pigs existed until relatively recently. I would love to get her a friend to spend her elderly years with (she is nearly 6 ) but don't think there are any rescues even relatively close to where I live.

And how can someone say they are rescuing but are breeding as well, surely when they are doing both they are contributing more to increasing the population of piggies which may potentially need 'rescuing' in the future- some people are very irresponsible. mallethead

our local animal rescue keeps her guineas in mixed groups so she can sell off the babiesmallethead

they probably make out that the ones they could not sell are 'rescues' like certain pet shops dogrrrr

It makes me want to spit feathers! I can understand mistaken pregnancies. My neighbors young kids put the piggies together to "play!" The 3 babies were rehomed with family so that was OK. I went into a pet shop yesterday and there was a lovely white mummy piggie with babies. The drinking water was really dirty, and I had nightmares last night about the babies falling in the dish. Then I went into p@h looking for a fancy fish. I made myself look in the adoption section quickly and there was a piggie who looked so sad. He was asleep on his side. I convinced myself he was dozing, but I cant stop thinking about him. Why? Why? do I look at the adoption section? :(

I didn't even know p@h had an adoption section. Are they the animals they can't sell?
