I was at the pet store today because I was waiting for my boyfriend to finish work and they had 15 young boars, I counted, in a less than 2x2 foot cage.

I was disgusted, I honestly almost started crying.
They were all biting each other, the older ones were mounting and squashing the babies, they would have been 3 weeks old at the very most, and the oldest looked even 2,3,4 months.

I am so disgusted and appalled. I asked the shop assistant where they animals get kept at night and she said "they stay here so they get a good nights sleep". How can anyone get a good nights sleep in a cage where they can't even move?
I told her there were too many boars in the cage, not that it would do anything sadly, she just went up, petted them and said with a laugh "what are we going to do with you guys!" then walked away.

I could not be any angrier at people right now.

As do I :(
Would never ever buy from there but just go in occasionally, the conditions are always awful.

They were just all squealing, and fighting, and biting. It was so horrible.

Can you report them? to either a council or whoever issues their license and any animal charity?

Yeah, I will report but to be honest in Australia nothing will happen. :\ The RSPCA and other authorities will do nothing. I'll try though

Why dont you go in take a picture on a phone and name and shame them on the internet. Put it on Youtube etc.

If they dont like it and threaten to sue tell them to carry on. Will they want the world publicity 'cause you bet your bottom dollar that everyone on this forum would publicise it.

We had a local pet store that had rabbits in with guinea pigs. I asked to see the manager. I then verbally had a go at him in a voice loud enough for the whole store could hear. This was a say 5000 sq ft pet store in a large shopping mall. (if you are from the Midlands UK its the one at Merry Hill).

I am used to attendiing court and have taken on the banks and large multi nationals in my time. If I could I wouldnt hesitate to take down such pet shops.grrrr

I like the you tube idea!
Yes your council or something similar us your port of call, whoever had issued their licence.
Name & shame, they sound disgusting :)>>>
Good luck x

I'd report them to the RSPCA and then tell ACS and then even your local newspaper........ get the evidence tho!
This is appalling :)>>>
GO for it!

Okay Thanks guys, and thanks Glynis too for the more local opinion as I know you're in Australia too

I took a photo today of the cages, you can't see all the pigs as there are igloos etc but you can definitely see the extent of it.

Well done you! I had problems with them too, selling a guineapig with complex health needs (who I now have) and despite lettters, phone calls and a report to the council nothing got sorted. Glad someone with more guts than me gave them what for...

The last one I had for a client who was owed money, he was offered £40, in court I won him £4,500.

I am not a solicitor, I am a credit manager with over 25 years experience, but this means I know a little about contract law and debt recovery.

The only case I was involved with that was lost was a pyric victory for the other side. They were pursuing over £3,000 plus costs. Although the judgement went against the company I was with, the Judge awarded the other side only £160 and no costs.

You work it out whether that was a victory for the claimant.

OMG that is disgusting! I can never understand how people would let pets live like that, especially in a pet store that is supposed to promote good standards.
I was at P@H yesterday stocking up on piggie food, and I saw at least 7 degus in a cage that can't have been more than 3x2. They were fighting for space and trying to get some exercise when they could barely move! :(
