....But I just had to have these two new guys! :))

So I'd been wanting some more boys for a while now but was wondering how the OH would take it. Whilst on holiday week before last, i was on Helens website, The Potteries Guinea Pig Rescue on my iphone and spotted these two cuties needing a home:

First is Winston, a 9 week old Lunkarya:))

And this is Flinn, a peruvian who is about a year old

They seem to be settling well and enjoy chatting to Fuzzy and Tyler across the kitchen (I have 2 120 ferplast cages in there)

and this is how they liked to snuggle this afternoon on the sofa lol

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww*breathe*Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwdrool I am in love x) x)

x)x) Looking to your pictures i'm pretty sure Flinn is a coronet and not a peruvian ;)

Just out of interest - how come The Potteries rescue only require potential homes to have a 100cm sized indoor cage for pairs of boys and only a 120cm sized indoor cage for trios?

I always assumed reputable rescues such as The Potteries require 120cm sized cages as minimum for pairs - is this a mistake on the website? Surely 100cm is way too small for a pair of boys - i couldn't even imagine putting a trio of either girls or boys in a 120cm cage - they'd have no room to move around.....

I can certainly see why you fell for Flinn & Winston (i just love Lunkarya's) drooldrooldrool

Ive just had a read of their adoption policy and it appears to be a mistake on the rehoming pages re. minimum cage sizes.

The adoption page states 4ft x 2ft for a pair and 5ft x 2ft for a trio - but when looking at the boars available it states:

Home check may apply.

Please read our adoption policy before contacting us.We may need to ask you questions about this :)

Min 4ft x 2ft / Nero 3 indoor cage / 4ft run

and on the sows/neutered boars page:

Gorgeous trio of bonded pet sows all age 18mths.Need to be rehomed for genuine reasons,to a loving forever home. They are friendly, enjoy cuddles and would make a great addition to your family.

5ft outdoor hutch or nero 4 size indoor cage -minimum housing requirements.

Home check may apply.

Please read our adoption policy before contacting us,we may need to ask you questions about this :)

Does anyone from the Potteries guinea pig rescue visit these forums? Maybe someone could let them know about the mistake on the rehoming pages :)

I hadn't spotted that! But I have rehomed twice from there now and Helen does ask about where they'll be living etc and does advise 4 x2 min for a pair. They are on the forum as the potteries (there's currently a thread by them in rescue & rehoming) and clairelove is the other lady on here :)
When I googled Peruvian I got pictures just like flinn and helen said Peruvian too.

Here's a pic of my peruvian boy:

Peruvian guinea pig:
These guinea pigs have a distinctive coat; the Peruvian variety has hair that falls down over the face and back end, making it difficult to tell which end is which.

Here's a pic of my coronet boy Wexford - you can clearly see the resemblance between Wexford and your boy Flinn:

Coronet guinea pig:
The Coronet guinea pig is essentially a long haired Crested guinea pig. These pigs have a single rosette on their heads and long hair covering the body. The hair falls backwards from the head down over the body toward the rump with a centre parting.

Here is a goods site that explains the differences between the guinea pig breed types:

Funnily enough I've just been googling this as I hadn't considered coronet before but I think you might be right, or he might be crossed....:^-

The Nero 3 is 100 cm, too small for a pair; The Nero 4 is 120cm and suitable for a pair; A trio needs a Ferplast 140 or bigger - I prefer a Rabbit 150 for trios.

Yeah true, I have x2 120 ferplast cages (removed the built in platform for more room as they dont use it), got 'them on zooplus for £44 each! very nearly bought them at p@h for £70 each!

Well, that certainly describes my Cameo to a T! (Her hair is growing back nicely by the way! :)) )

How much grass is Wexford trying to shovel into his mouth in that photo?!

Congratulations on your new babies, they are beautiful x)droolx)drool
