I have been given the privilage of looking after a very pregnant piggie. She was at the rescue which I have been helping at and was getting pestered by the other guineas so have bought her home to be quiet and settle for the imminent birth. Myself and the kids are so excited and are making sure she gets lots of good veggies and food before she gives birth. Will keep you updated on her progress and whilst we have her have named her Ava, she is a cream teddy, who purrs when I carefully place her on a cushion on my lap to stroke her, what a sweetie.

PLEASE do not overfeed your girl - all the food will go to the pups at this junction. Big babies in a small litter can cause problems at birth, so please make sure that you are not giving much more than normal. You are aiming at ideal sized pups, not huge ones. You can feed all you want AFTER birth. Be aware that it will go straight to the milk bar and that mummy will need some extra tlc after the end of the nursing period.

Give double the amount of vitamin C, preferably in form of an extra slice of pepper or more broccoli. Some people recomment to wait with parsley until after the birth because it contains a compound that could trigger labour, but I have not been able to verify that. 50-80% if the daily food intake should be still hay. Add alfalfa hay for the pups bones until the end of the nursing period. Give a bit more pellets if necessary - they contain also some protein. Extra flaked peas are also good for some added protein.

All the best - first births always take longer than you'd think!

Ah bless what a exciting time-hope we get to see piccys of the babies :)) on another note i have to say your profile piccy is fab i love the hair piece-so cute, how did you keep it in lol x

thankyou for your advice. I did think about the amount of food and the size of pups especially as she isn't running about so glad I was on the right track there. I will be returning her to the rescue once her babies and her are settled (thats the intention!), so she will be checked out by them too, have also read about parsley so avoiding it just to be sure. Shall I give her alfafa hay now? have read about it and thought it was a must purchase this week. Will of course let you all know when they arrive. Ref: the profile piccie I have to confess that it isn't one of my piggies I saw it on the internet and just loved it so I kidnapped it for my profile pic. I too would be interested to see how they managed to get the piggie to sit still I wonder if the bow was attached to a clip and they clipped it into her hair! Probably find out the piggie was a boy called bruno and the bow just suited him!

This made me giggle lol! :)) It's a great pic, I may try that one day x)

you must put pictures on. Lokking forward to seeing them. Your pp made me laugh, what a cutie! Hope all goes well. Good luck!

Thank-you still waiting. She seems fine have discovered she loves being tickled under her chin and she doesn't scurry away now if I put food in or go to tickle her.. I like to think it is because she is getting.g use to me but its probably cos she is too big to shift quickly. Lol.
