Hi all, I have 5 gorgeous girls, unfortunately recently I have been really struggling with my allergies. I take antihistamine every day and have an air purifier next to the girls and I was managing fine but recently my allergies have gone mad. I don't know if it's because of the autumn and not having the windows open so much but it's driving me crazy. I have worked out its the girls urine I'm allergic to so they get a full clean out every other day. Does anyone else suffer and have any tips on this? Thanks x

Hi there, unfortunately its more common than you realise. I assume your girls are housed indoors and in the same room?

What bedding do you use?

My best advice, as my husband was suffering also, think about the bedding and moving them into another room or outside in a suitable hutch and shed.

I use Fitch bedding, the fleece is just too difficult in the winter plus handling the dirty fleece makes me sneeze like crazy! They are in the living room in a huge home made cage. I could possibly put them in another room but wouldn't like to put them outside as they are not used to it. I love them so much bit I'm struggling to even handle them at the moment X

Yes you definitely need aeration. You're going to need to get over this bout of illness first (allergy), but you definitely need to move them. I know it can be difficult, less handling, try wearing a facemark when cleaning out and when putting in hay. The type of mask you use when doing sanding down wood etc.

Like they say on a plane, look after yourself first and then you're in a position to look after others.

Ahh thank you, I'm going to move them today, I just feel so guilty, it even crossed my mind to rehome 2 of them but I don't know if I could let them go. Funny thing is, of it was anyone else in the house allergic I wouldn't think twice about making changes X
