CharlottiesPiggies

Well I am trying to split mine into two trio's there was quite a bit of scuffling, so I put Fergie, Hamish and Pie into the new hutch, which is only really suitable for a pair, while Harley, Merry & Rosie are trying to sort themselves out.

I just feel cruel as they don't have much room, but I am not sure if now my three are getting ok, if I took one away like Rosie and just had a pair in the hutch - I mean it was probably my fault buying one that was a tad too small - but will it confuse things alot more taking Rosie away again?

I am in a catch 22, I am really confused :( Fergie, Hamish and Pie dont mind - and when its the summer the hutch will just be for night time use, but....hmmmph, the thought of 4 and 2 is appealing, but ARGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH 98) 98) 98) 98) 98) 98) 98)

If they have been livin gin a big group it is not obvious who really gets on best with who. Why do you need to split the group up if they are living together alraedy?
If you ned to spolit them try not to mix them around too much as it must be confusing being with a different set of guineas, they will let you know what is best for them and who they get on with what ever we plan it never works out that way we are just the guinea slaves!

I need to seperate the group because I have two boars, Merry and Harley seem to get on better and poor Rosie gets shut out :'( so I guess we shall see......

I'm planning on getting another chicken type ark to have outside that can also be used indoors as well, however my other three seem to be happy in that other one despite it being a little small for them

I'd leave it a little while and see how the dust settles. It can be very confusing for them to go from a larger group to a pairing or trio. Good luck O0

I'm a bit confused, do you have two boars (neutered?) in with four girls? Sorry, but I can't remember what mix of piggies you have! If you have 1 trio of 3 girls and another of 2 neutered boys and a girl not sure how the latter would work out, even with the most laid back of boys! ;)

We have a group of 7, 1 neutered boy and 6 girls in a 6'x2'x2' hutch with large C&C run off it, housed in the shed and I have to say I would rather clean this out then several smaller hutches (which is what I used to do before my lot bonded) and seeing a "herd" running together is wonderful. :smitten:

Good luck.

I too have groups of one boar and 2-3 females running together and it works very well. I think two boars in with one sow might cause the sow to get a bit hassled.

I also can't imagine two boars being happy being together with females either to be honest, I don't know of many pairings where there is more than one boar among females, but of course that doesn't mean to say it can't happen :-\

sorry but i've only had two boars ...... and there is no way knowing them in particular that i would've introduced a girlie to them... :o :o :o :o
BUT saying this only you can judge............but be careful love as mucking around with groups that are happy could cause more probs and that's not something you need to happen :( :( :(
wishing you all the best :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

The one and only time I have seen two boars happy with girls is in a free range herd of 12+ girls and 2 boys with their own massive shed for the evening. I agree with Glynis changing groupings around canlead to trouble, wishing you and your piggies the best O0

i thought the boys were in seperate herds? and thats why she had to split up the group in first place?

there is Fergie, Hamish and Pie (Hamish is the boar)

and there is Harley, Merry & Rosie (Harley is the boar)

i think the problem is that Rosie is being left out and she doesnt know whether to put Rosie in with Fergie, Hamish and Pie :)

i think you should let them settle and see what happens, they are probably getting used to there new groups :)

I let me my two boars in with my 5 girls at play time (at the moment this is most of the day as i set the run up in my bedroom with food etc) and when its time to go away they had it. So i know it is possible to be together but i haven't tried this full time yet. xx

Thanks Maisy, yeah I just have all this stuff whirring round my ickle brain and it just farts out :embarassed: ::) hehe

well today the two trios went out to grass and they were happy. O0 so I'm feeling a little better >:D

That's great :) Sorry, I was confused, I thought you had two boars and one female!

they can happily live in a group of 3, but I've usually found one gets left out. This this is worse with 3 sows together though ::)

Really, it depends how much room you have in each hutch and how many you want in a hutch, also the dynamics of the groups

Yeah they are happier now, I am going to muck the others out today, so I will swap them over methinks to the other hutch :smitten:
