I'm currently arranging a house exchange, and everything is looking positive, so we'll probably be moving in the next few weeks. Does anyone have any experience or advice on the best way to move my guinea pigs? I'm a bit concerned that the chaos of moving will be too much for them, and wondering whether to leave them with someone for a day while we get everything to the new house, then collect them once things are a bit more settled the next day. However, I don't want to upset their routines too much either. Any advice would be welcome. :)

The best way is to put them is cat carriers Soon as you get to your new house build there cage & put them in. Are you moving anywhere nice? See if you can fit a water bottle in, otherwise you will have to stop to give them water. Put some food in there too if piggies are eating they don't care what you do.When you have them in the new house, keep watch, to see that they are not unsettled, or very quiet. Also put them in the same room as they were in.
Moving was easy as OH did it all.
He did suggest that the car was full up & we'll leave the piggies in the old house & pick them up tomorrow.
I went mental, so he dropped the last load off. Then came back & picked the piggies up.
Very wise move on his part. Lol

:D Thanks! Great advice. We're not moving too far, only about 10 miles away. I'm probably worrying more than I need to. :D

If you have someone you can leave them with where they would be quiet I think that would be a very good idea. You could then take them to the new house when all the noise and disruption is over.

My mum's is quiet, but it's sheltered housing so not sure she'd be allowed. Mind you, if it's only for a day we might be able to. She could keep them in her wet room, which is quite spacious, and wouldn't matter if they made a mess. :D

I'm sure your guinea pigs will be fine - but think how you will be too.

I remember when I moved house (pre guinea pig). I was absolutely exhausted!

As long as you are happy you will have the time and energy to help them settle in when you arrive in your new home - they'll be fine :)

My tip. Make sure all guinea pig things are the last packed and the first unpacked. Know where your kettle, tea bags and cups are. Get into the new house, settle the pigs, have a cuppa, make up your bed, have another cuppa, sleep and the rest can be done next day
