Sorry this isn't a very nice thing to talk about, but apart from keeping Roy clean what else can I do to help him? Is there any way to get rid of it or anything? Are there any foods that are better to give or avoid or anything like that? Thank you :)

I read somewhere that you can supplement his diet by giving him a 0.4mls of Feroglobin, but when I asked my vet about this he said that really if the pig is fed a good diet you shouldn't need to do this because he should get the vitamins from Feroglobin in his diet already.

Also, this sounds gross, but when my piggie was impacted, after cleaning out the ceacal matter I used to feed them back to him. Because they were produced for him to reingest in the first place.

One of my boars Jake gets impaction but luckily its usually once every few wheeks.
Yes you can see if they'll eat the faeces you remove as its the soft stools that they'd eat anyways.

I had to clean out both our boys..... Sully's was always in a huge clump so i'd just clean him out over my box that i put the used hay etc..
Duke's was clumped often....... but at times not.......i had never thought about giving them back to him.........interesting comment 'Rocky' thanks :)

Alicia i was never told about any foods to help, maybe someone with boars who's experienced this may have a thought on foods to help xxxxx

One of my boys had this when he came to me. I open him up wearing a pair of gloves and clean him out with a baby wipe. always offer them up what youve got out so they dont miss out on the b vitamins. I spoke to my vet about it and she said you can put pineapple juice in the water, it helps there intestinal tract apparantly. In my experience though they wont touch the water if anythig is added. I give him a little piece of fresh pinapple 2-3 times a week (keep an eye an there mouth for fungal etc though as pineapple is acidic). Beetroot and dandilion leaves seem to help to! i also give him a probiotic once a day. It's not been an issue since so no cleaning out for mummy! :)

hope that helps.
