Impacted Bottom

What do folk mean by using mineral oil, asked at chemist and she said was used for lubricating sewing machine, not sure suitable for guinea pigs bottom!
Have got baby oil plus vaseline but the baby oil is slightly perfumed is that going to irritate his bottom?
any advice appreciated

Am bumping this, as I have not had to clean out impaction (yet). I know there are some members on here who have though.

I wouldn't use anything. Just remove the offending item and leave them to get on with it. If they are impacted, the muscles will be fairly lax, so shouldn't need anything added. Just hold your breath!

When my old pig (Marble - RIP) was old and impacted (common with older boars) his muscles were not strong enough so i rubbed mineral oil around his bum afte r'cleaning' him to help aid the poops come out

However I recently cleaned my young boar, Arthur, who is around 1 year old, and after he had been cleaned of the impaction his pooing was normal, so it is not needed in every case. I got my mineral oil online, not sure the make and have thrown it when Marble died. Hope this helps

I didn't have to deal with any impaction, but every now and then I clean Teddy's bottom because he gets things stuck in there and I use a tiny bit of cold pressed coconut oil to lubricate the cotton bud. Anyway, there's a section on Guinea Lynx where they talk about impaction and its quite extensive. Here

Hi Morgan - We use a few drops of baby oil mixed in a small bowl of warm water when cleaning Scully and have never had problems. As he's gotten older he requires cleaning out more frequently and we find the impaction comes out more easily with a little lubrication. If it's a younger boar and it comes out easily you may not need it, but it doesn't hurt to use.

You may also want to have a nose peg to hand! :-) :-)

can't you use tea tree cream its for animal s and its for there skin etc ! its good stuff , I did tell galaxy & nibbles about tea tree cream.
