I have a 4 year old boar Texel with and impaction as well as weight loss, lethargy and now stopped eating. I have cleaned out his anul cavity daily. He has now stopped eating. He has a constant abundant supply of Timothy hay and carrots as treats. I have recently supplemented his water with vitamin C which seems to have made the symptons worse. I had an impaction of approximately 1 inch in diameter. His brother just died from the same condition even after numerous vet visits with qualified exotic pet credentials and antibiotics. HELP!

As Bubble&squeak4ever said he needs to be taken to a good cavy savvy vet ASAP.

don't know how to find one. The vet i used was the one all the breeders in the area use. Thanks for your help. My little one who is housed with him doesn't have any symptoms. From everything I have read it sounds like it is old age. Thanks for your help. I heard cucumbers may help but then again others say no veggies will help. I treat him with carrots with which i have heard mixed reviews. Please please please anyone that has any clue!! I live in central florida so if anyone knows of a cavy savvy vet. But again...all breeders in my area go to the one I saw...say it's old age. Sorry if I'm repeating myself but....well you all know what it's like....:(

Although your boy needs a vet asap. You need to get some food into him asap too. If you have some critical care food try syringe feeding him some of this. If not try soaking some pellets down to syringe into him. He must continue to eat otherwise he will get even more ill.

x.

I see he is gnawing on his edible log...for teeth. Should I make him run around or will that make things worse? And as for the cabbage...will that make him gassy? How bout dark lettuces or spinach? Are carrots harmful at this stage? What is critical care food? I am feeding him Timothy hay but am on my way to get coastal bales for my horse. Would that be helpful to give him additional types of hay? Thanks for all the help everyone!!!

I went to that site yesterday and have followed their directions. Thanks for the reply!

if you cant get him to a good vet. just make sure he is comfortable and has access to hay food and water...hope he gets better x

I just put some romaine lettuce in which he loves and is munching away. When I cleaned his Cavy cavity a while ago I got small poops and a string of hay. What does that mean? What's with the stray hay in his cavity?
