I've been trying to research about boys with impaction & caecal poops. I have a boy called Rex who I've had for 2.5 years since he was supposedly 2 but I suspect he may have been older. He was neutered just before I adopted him & already suffered slight impaction, just a little cleaning every Sunday was sufficient.

Recently he has lost a bit of weigh & it was discovered that he had a split top incisor which was trimmed in the hope that it may start to grow right from the root but this hasn't happened & it still looks like he has 3 top teeth & has had to have them trimmed again. His impaction has also got worse & I'm cleaning him at least 3 times a day. Usually 3 to 6 poops some sticking out that need to be removed. I'm wondering if his teeth problem is not allowing him to duck his head between his legs & retrieve his edible poops.

Yesterday when I cleaned him, I offered him one of these poops & he willingly took it & ate it straighaway. I have done the same today on the 3 times I cleaned him & given him 2 poops each time which he seemed to really enjoy eating.

I can't find any mention of this in connection with impaction so wondered if any of our more knowledgable members can help me with this :) xx

If you can, and they are in an edible/acceptable state, then offering him the redigestible poos is great! Otherwise, you have to resort to giving as much fibre as you can. It also seems that feeding the same diet daily at the same time that can alleviate impaction, especially in the early stages.
