my guinea pig is really ill, i have been to the vet and he thinks its impaction , but can this happen in a sow or is it enteritis? I'm getting up every half hour to feed her water, ive brought her inside to keep warm , my others have come to so she has company. she is lathargic, not eating or drinking, eyes half closed, weeing on herself, diarrhea, and solid lump at inner rearend, stomach not too gassy. has enyone got any advise, what do yous think it is , help?really worryed... xx

Really sorry to hear your piggie is so poorly. Impaction is very rare in females and tends to only occur in older boars. How old is she?
If she has diarrhoea you will need to isolate her from the other piggies, you can still keep them close by, by putting her in a cage next to them. Your doing the right thing giving her fluids but she also needs food. If you don't have any sachets of liquid food, mush down some of your nuggets with hot water until its like a paste. You will then need to syringe feed it to her (once it has cooled down) at regular intervals. Also try offering her her favourite veggies.
I'm concerned that the vet thought it was impaction especially as your piggie is a girl and she is showing signs of diarrhoea, can you tell us where about you live so we can recommend a guinea savvy vet. She sounds like she needs some antibiotics and quite possibly pain relief.
Sending healing vibes to your piggie, I really hope she starts to feel better soon. Don't be afraid to ask any questions we're all happy to help x

Just seen you have posted this in guinea pig chat, you may get more answers if you post in Health and Illness. Or maybe a mod can move it?

thanks for the advise, it was enteritis , i was up hourly giving her fluids , her condition was worse this morning so took her to the vet, the vet said there was nothing he could do so he euthanised her . the vet last night had said it was impaction and i asked about feeding but he didnt advise it , i was concidering doing exactly what you said but as the vet didnt advise it i didnt,i should of went with my gut feeling, i only got your message today, i had a different vet this morning and he diagnosed it as enteritis. i only had her for 4 weeks she was 15weeks old. i live in cumbria. I am going to disinfect everything, i have another 4 pigs , two lived with her so they are in a temporary cage at the moment. is it passed on by the air or just direct and indirect contact?

Aww hun I am so sorry, I was thinking of you last night and this morning. You did everything you could for her. Its actually made me cry. RIP sweet piggie. (((hugs))) x
