I also have never had an impacted sow.

I have had a couple of elderly impacted boars ... one in particular called Jack.

Could somebody please explain tome *** an impacted boar is? (sorry id this is being thick?)

Basically, it usually happens in elderly boars. His muscles in his back passage weaken and therefore he has soft, unpelleted poos .. a mass ... that get lodged in his anal sac.

It needs removing manually by the owner, usually just by squeezing it out gently to remove it. It can be smelly but it will make the piggy a lot more comfortable!

Hope this helps! :)

I have had guinea pigs for over 16 years and only Boars. In that whole time I have never had an impacted boar.

As a rescue we have had a few impacted boars come through, although those that have been neutered and put in with ladies have shown a great reducation with the problem when before castration the were quite badly affected.

This is interesting as both my affected boys were neutered & lived with girls, one was especially bad but i did find probiotic helped :)
