hi
Max has impaction and last time he was taken to the vets around 4 months ago and she expelled it all for him. I've picked him up today and he was squeeking and I noticed he was impacted again. I tried to get it out but he was wriggling so much (first time I've tried to do it myself) and In his defence it was in my shed and pretty chilly at the moment! so I've decided to leave it and tuck him up to bed with his quilts ect and try again tomorrow, will he be ok though? It won't kill him overnight will it? I'm pretty sure he was still pooing normal stools aswell though, but he's definatly compacted also.

Thanks :)

Have you managed to sort him out? Impaction can be difficult and is always very smelly! I hope the links helped. Unfortunately it can often recur especially in older boars, so it's well worth checking regularly so you can clear him out before it gets too bad.

I haven't just yet! He's eating his veggies at the moment and I'm going to get myself some dinner, then tackle his bottom! Wish me luck lol pegs at the ready

I done it, I think! I managed to ease a big lump of soft poop out! It was the most horrific thing I think I have ever done, lucky i love my pigs! lol I don't think it was 100% perfect and I didn't manage to wipe inside with a qtip because it was Max's first time too and I think he felt abit shocked and wouldn't keep still, but least I have eased the impaction I suppose :)

Thanks this is the first time I've had to do it and Max is nearly 4! I have another 3 boars two of which are 8 weeks and ither is 4 aswell. So I should be a pro eventually lol

I find if you have a snuggle sack for them to hide their top halves they don't squirm and wriggle as much ;)
Well done on clearing your boys bum! It's a stinky and icky job but they look so relieved (if not a bit shocked) afterwards :)

What do you mean vibes to max? and yeah I put him under some fleece to cover his head and feel abit protected but I don't think it worked he was obviously confused why I was sqeeezing his bum! ha bless him in going to check my other 4 year olds pigs bum tomorrow too, fun!
