Impaction?

I'm very upset to be having to post something like this having just lost a special pig last week. But today my little wills hasn't seemed himself. I've given him a check over and found a build up of soft poo in his anal sac (not diarrhoea just not formed). I cleaned it out and he's since been sleeping. I've seen him munch on hay today and a few pellets but he wouldn't eat his veggie dinner, which is obviously a bad sign. He seemed interested initially, took one nibble then stopped and hid in his fleecy bed. I've syringe fed him but only around 3-4mls as he wasn't happy and ended up spitting it out. His bum had a bit more soft poo which I've cleaned. I originally thought it was possibly impaction but I've read online that its usually older boars and its v rare in neutered boars. Is this still a possibility? Time for the vets :( I feel like such a piggy mum failure.
 
Sorry this hasn't been answered yet - is your boar a lone boar now?
 
No, he has a wife, I was just panicking that another of my pigs was ill and I can't stand to loose another.. He seems to have picked up after the first syringe feed. He had a snooze for 1 1/2 hours then we got him out again. He has eaten some mushed pellets and hay. He seems more himself. Have given him a heat pad and checked his bum - he had one soft poop which was a little mucus-ey then a semi formed poop followed that. Going to try again in a bit with more syringe feeding/mushed pellets.
 
Keep on with the syringing. Can you get to a vet to get him checked? Hope he is okay. Xx

Mucus covered poo often points towards dehydration, so I would also offer water, not just mushed up pellets. I am very sorry that you are having to deal with several issues at the same time! These things often happen in bunches. :(

If you are dealing with impaction problems, it can help to keep the fibre intake very high and to always feed exactly the same diet at the same time. Adding a pinch of probiotics to his daily diet can also help.
