Recently I was given two boys as the owner had to re-home them ASAP. These boys I watched last year, both are very affectionate. They came from a family which didn't have any other animals and appeared to be in very good health.

I've had the boys now, on or around two weeks. These boys have been kept separate. I'm very strict about quarantine as my piggies are getting older now and so I wouldn't want anything to compromise there health.

Last night, I was given them there vegetables when I noticed that familiar ring under his lip. Having dealt with ringworm on more than one occasion I'm fairly certain this is what it is. He lives himself at present and the location is physically impossible for him to bite himself. I was truly surprised considering he was at the end of the two week quarantine. This does makes sense as it has a two week incubation period. I imagine it's been the stress of moving which has caused this. I had a similar episode with my Pebbles when I moved home.

It's just confirms for me the importance of quarantine, so glad I didn't take any risks.

Glad that you did quarantine; if you can, consider doing a mandatory 3 week period rather than a 2 week one. We have a sticky on that issue with tips at the top of our newbies' section, which we point out to those members with existing piggies looking for new additions that have not undergone quarantine at a rescue.
Importance Of Quarantine

Stress when moving to new surroundings is a major factor in lowering the body's defences and causing an acute outbreak, but like with URI, coming down with ringworm means that there has been exposure to bacteria/fungal spores in their previous place. It is usually more of a problem with young shop or breeder babies, as their immune system is still developing and not quite as strong yet.

Wishing your boys a good and fast recovery; sadly once acute, ringworm has to run its due course. :(

Thanks @Wiebke I was looking at the sticky last night. Thankfully I remember most of the protocol and will begin there fungal baths for the two boys. The boys will be glad to know I'm having to cancel there neutering perhaps it's a conspiracy.

Sorry for the mess, but at least you are on top of it and will hopefully get through it as smoothly as possible. ;)

Thank you for sharing this Jo, it just shows how important quarantine is. They are in good hands and you should be on top of it in no time.
