hi, we have had a boar for a year (with 2 sows) and now have another boar (10 wks) due to a mix up with sexing at the rescue!? so the baby is on his own at the mo until he is big / old enough to be neutered then we will get him a sow or two...
anyway we had a problem with the babys wee....it was browny red coloured.
thought of ..something he had eaten ie carrots, bladder stones, uti etc so put him on baytril and cystaid...
he had a piece of hay in his willy!
didnt realise how common this was !
PLEASE CHECK YOUR BOARS BITS EVERY DAY FOR HAY!
I WILL BE CHECKING BOTH MY BOARS EVERY DAY FOR THIS, IT CAN MAKE THEM VERY ILL AND COST YOU LOTS OF MONEY THAT YOU COULD NOT HAVE TO PAY JUST BY CHECKING DAILY...
i dont like to be bossy but i think some people out there might not realise this can happen the same as i didnt......

Hello
thanks for the top tip and glad you found out what it was !
I check my piggies' bums and bits every day, bf thinks I'm obsessed with them but hey, someone's got to do it ! :(|)
Happy pigging :)

See that up there in the sky? It's the last of my guinea pigs dignity flying away :(|) :(|) :(|)

I check all mine daily including girls also i check eyes as well which is a good thing as i found a piece of hay stuck in one of my friends piggys eye that was staying with me.

Also Ella my rabbit once got some hay up her nose.

Defo agree with daily checks:)

I check both Boars and all my Sows every day always have done too. I check twice a day takes only a second at cuddle time:)

Thanks for that.

When I bath my boars, I do tend to inspect their "bits". Pressing gently just above it will make the penis come out and you can check it for any pieces of hay or shavings or anything else that happens to lodge up there! rolleyes:))

I found Keith my little long haired boar had some of his hair going up his willie! so it pays to check regularly and some of my boys have large bits which need checking too

thats great thanks for that, never thought about anything like that, my piggies dont like me holding them on their back whilst i check their bits but will make an extra effort from now on thanks for that

Thanks for the advice, i would never of thought to check that end! I always check eyes though, as i've had a rabbit with an ulcer on its eye from straw/hay trauma.
