I have PMed a Moderator to unsticky the diet threads I have done over the last two years.

I plan to redo the diet stickies, as the ones I have done are leading to some confusion and to correct this I'd like to write up an alternative which is easier for members to follow and understand.

I am planning to write one which takes into account the whole diet - including hay, dry food and water - and do less detailed info on veggies. I intend to link to the Ratewatchers diet and the Guinea Lynx Calcium-Phosphorus calculator for those who want to go down that road, and for others, I intend to link to the forum "shopping list".

It's just some information is confusing people and contradicting other places, and I've not taken into account some factors that other places (i.e. Guinea Lynx, Ratewatchers) have, so to help other members I'd like to provide an easier to understand alternative.

I will get the new info posted in the Reference Section this week.

I apologise profusely to anyone who has encountered confusion after reading/following my threads - I did the best I possibly could at that time, and I still follow the diet with my own pigs, but it is not as clear and thorough as I had hoped, and as such I would prefer to provide a more up to date thread regarding the diet of guinea pigs.

Laura --- thank you for this and for your response to my other post...

Your profuse apologies are not necessary at all ! Your article is very very very very good! My husband thinks it makes perfect sense, but I've always been thick when it comes to science/numbers (so that's my problem!)

I, personally, look forward to any new articles you may post here on Food-related issues.

For now, be encouraged! You are a great help to everyone on this forum.

Aw thank you Pork, you are too kind!

Don't worry though, it's not because of your post I've done this. I've been feeling I want to do this for a while now and a few posts recently have prompted me to actually get it done. Next one will be better and easier to follow! :)

Thank you, Laura - having just one thread on the whole guinea pig diet would be a great timesaver and help for me, too! Depending on how sow the forum is, it takes me several minutes to parse in all the links into a post. I would like to point out that the "shopping list" has a few holes and could do with an overhaul as well as with some renaming to "edible veg list" so more people will look at it.

PS: The sticky threads especially in the Care section of this forum could do with some serious overhaul, anyway. Perhaps we should gang together and have a look through to see what could be done and who could do it?

Thank you so much Laura for taking the time to write this article. As you know, my girls are on a low calcium diet due to the illness that took my Connie away and it is thanks to you that I have managed to change my piggies diet when the same thing started with Eliza xx

Just wanted to add how grateful I am for your diet advice, Laura.

I overhauled my piggies' veg diet after discovering your stickies. I admit that I found it very confusing for quite a while, but not because of how you've composed or written the threads....more to do with the fact that it can be very tricky to get your head around something like that, generally speaking. (It's a very long time since I was at school and my "science brain" is very rusty!)

The ca : ph theory has definitely clicked with me now, thanks to you. Even so, I still have difficulty with it sometimes and I apologise for delving so deeply into everything and always wanting to question everything - I know my questions have contributed to this overhaul and I'm sorry to be a pain!

It can't have been at all easy trying to write such a detailed thread and it's understandable that you felt that you wanted to make tweaks after so much time, as you're constantly researching and learning.

I always learn from your posts and look out for them. No pressure, but you're a brilliant asset to this Forum and if you want to make these threads even better, then I'm sure they'll prove to be just as invaluable as your others. Your decision to do this just goes to show your dedication to us Forum members and your commitment to always giving great advice, to the best of your knowledge, something which never goes unnoticed x

ill look forward to that post thanks laura. i always revert back to it when i get veg for the pigs and things so it will be good to see an updated one xxxxxxx
