In or Out?

I think this one boils down to personal choice and circumstance. But personally, I have mine indoors as I love to watch them play, they give me hours of entertainment :))
 
I would say in if you only have a couple. :) I have 14 so mine all live in my shed and they prefer that in all honesty as I have noisy children. :)

But its your call, I wouldn't have them outside in the winter but in a shed nice and snug is ok. :)
 
I've got both, and especially at this time of year, it's much easier to give the indoor ones the time and attention they need, also you get to see a lot more of their 'normal' behaviour when you share their space. Having said that my shed ones are happy piggies too...

If I only had 2, like S&T says, I'd have them indoors if I could. They're funny to watch. But I've got ... um about 40... and so it's not practical to have them all indoors!

I agree with that Sophie, its just not practical to have them indoors if you have a large amount and a family. When I had 6 it wasn't too bad but 14, 2 fosters and 2 bunnies its hard to keep ontop of the slight smell that comes from them.

We did try having 2 in, but they hated it and became skittish. We just put our coats on and go and have a cuddle in the barn...haha and its always nice to get away from screaming children for a quick cuddle with a pig! :(|)
 
Hi as the others said it's personal choice really. I can't have mine indoors due to asthma but they live happily in the shed all winter. Mind you they are spoilt, they have hutches for night time and they have runs full of straw and toys for day time. It's an 8' x 6' shed with 3 gps at the moment. 2 in one run and 1 in the other. The runs are next to each other so that they can see each other if they want. We will be having another piggie shortly so it'll need some working out. We find that this works really well for us and have a stool in the shed to sit on for cuddles. Hope this helps.
 
I also have both, two inside and seven out and there are pros and cons to both. The six outside have more room and freedom they are a herd of one neutered boar and six sows and they have a 12 x 6 shed ( insulated )which they roam freely in 24 hours a day. We do spend lots of time up there with them and they are tame and easy to handle but they prefer to be left alone whilst the two young boars I have inside are soppy enough to sit on our laps for hours and watch tv or even flop over and snooze on us. They too get to run around the downstairs when practical but obviously over night or when we are out they are confined to the cage

I agree with piggiesforever i have both. My ones outside have more freedom than the indoor ones. Some are keener on cuddles than others but they are ok to handle for health checks. My two indoors get more cuddles purely because they are so soft they will sit for hours in a hammock on your knee. My outdoor pigs dont like being indoors as have had them in when do bathing in the summer and they show they are happier outside. I have two inside and a herd of 6 sows outdoors free range in a shed. If i had space they all would be indoors. I would swap any of them as their personalities are different.

I think its up to you and your circumstances. I used to have four all indoors but when i got more i got a shed for them.

You will know whats best for your pigs.

Indoors, because you are bound to spend more time with them if they are inside. Lets face it, how many of us would spend hours sitting in the garage or shed when it is really cold and dark outside? As opposed to sitting in the kitchen with the piggies for a couple of hours where it is warm and bright?

If you spend more time with them, you will bond quicker, you are more likely to pick up if something is wrong with your piggy and can tackle any illness quickly, and you cut down health risks related to cold/drafts/dampness.
 
We have eight piggies altogether, two live inside but separately because they are male and female and these are my oldest two who are 5 and nearly 3. I have six in the shed in large hutches and they have a snugglesafe put in their bedding part when the nights are cold and frosty and loads and loads of hay to snuggle into although I do still worry about them but I've no room for any more cages inside.:(

We do spend hours outside whatever the weather because the GPs are out there and they are very much a part of our daily routine and being responsible owners they are not left to their own devices they are routinely weighed and checked over. An insulated shed is no comparison to a hutch exposed to the elements and thus cold/damp and drafts are not an issue. Likewise bonding has no relation to the GPs location but to your approach to them and also their individual personalities

I totally agree with you. My 2 girls live in our out building due to lack of space and OH being allergic to them BUT they are still very much part of the family. They are handled daily, come indoors for a run around in the kitchen as we do not have the heating on in there and have lots of cuddles. They are very tame and I spotted straight away that Connie isn't well and she is having treatment at the minute. When I am off work, I am in and out to them all day xx
