I have just recently started using these for my poorly pigs, after having used other brands previously (human chewable tablets and liquid vitamin C, at various dosages up to 50 mg). I didn't buy the Oxbow tablets previously in case the piggies hated them, and because they are so expensive.

Anyway, for some reason, these Oxbow vitamin C tablets seem better than any other vitamin C I've ever used. All my lot have an issue with an antibiotic-resistant UTI (been going on for 2 years now! rolleyes), and I've tried all different brands of vitamin C, plus none at all (I've had a lot of time to try things out!). I have noticed a significant improvement in Cassie, who was probably worst affected, since I tried the Oxbow tablets, so I'm really pleased.

Before anyone says (;)), yes I know healthy piggies don't need supplementary vitamin C - I'm talking about poorly piggies here. I just thought this information might be helpful to someone. :)

I've recommended by my vet to add a quarter of a vitamin C tablet to the bottle to help treat Llewelyn's cystitis.

How much do you add?

I don't add it to the water - I just feed it direct to the piggies. At the moment Cassie is on a full 50 mg tablet, and she crunches it up (I give half a tablet in the morning and half in the evening). Holly isn't so keen on them, so I crush it up and mix it with 1 ml water, and syringe it into her.

I've just Googled the active ingredient, Ascorbyl Palmitate, and think I've found out why it works better than the regular Ascorbic Acid (normal vitamin C) I'd been using. Here is some info I've copied (not from an animal-related website):

Ascorbyl Palmitate Benefits and Information

Ascorbyl palmitate is a fat-soluble form of ascorbic acid, or vitamin C. Unlike ascorbic acid, which is water-soluble, ascorbyl palmitate is not water-soluable. Consequently ascorbyl palminate can be stored in cell membranes until it is required by the body.

AAAARRRGGHH, Oxbow seem to have changed their tablets! mallethead inbreeding I am currently trying to get hold of some old stock. Why oh why does this have to happen? :...

Have you tried the stuff from Galen's Garden, it's a powder that you dissolve into water, Acerola? I've found it quite good. Annoying they've changed the one that you found so good!

I have, and I found it really hard to dose, or maybe it was just me. :{ One 'puff' seemed to be impossible to achieve! :{ I also found that the form of vitamin C in the tablets was working better, but they have now changed to calcium ascorbate. AAAAARRRGGHHH!

I have founds these excellent too and have recommended them on here. I have some 'old' stock if you are interested? can check how much I have left, sell by date etc if you like?

They have discontinued the Oxbow GTN 50-C tablets - but they have launched a new range of Vit C tablets. May take a while to reach UK though!

They are in the UK (Daily C), but they aren't the same form of vitamin C, so they probably won't be as good for my piggies, as well as being a different flavour etc. Grrr!! :(

Checked my tub, almost full but sell by date is 09/09 :(

I got them from sph supplies last year when Sunny was poorly, their phone number is 01363 860232. Perhaps give them a ring and see what old stock they have as mine are due to expire soon. You are welcome to them if you cant get hold of any but they will need to be used up soon!

Thanks for looking. :) How many are in the tub? I could definitely use some of them before the end of September. I'll PM you. :)

There were 200 tablets in the tub, I have probably used 2-3 weeks worth so about 20-25 only!

Here is a pic of what I have:
