the bleeping vets cut his incisors too short and now Jet has his appetite back but can’t pick hay up!

I’ve tried strips of veg but he doesn’t get it and he needs me to put chunks in his mouth if I do chunks. I know it’s not forever but some tips to help or encourage him him would be appreciated.

Hi literally shoves his head in the hay but can’t get any into his mouth!

This happened with our Dougal. Our local so-called Cavy Savy vets clipped the front teeth way too short and made the gums bleed, without even checking the back teeth! :(:( He couldn’t pick any food up for at least 2 weeks, we had to step in with syringe feeding. Also gave him a bowl of oats which he loved and mushed up pellets. Paws crossed for lil Jet x

I chop hay into small pieces to help them help it up.

Also, they seem to manage better if you can raise the hay off the floor. Do you have a hay bag/rack that you can use? Or maybe put something under the hay to lift it up?

Try not to worry to much, if he's hungy he'll keep trying. Get him out a few times a day and help him eat, and offer him something whenever you walk past the cage.

His teeth will grow back quickly, it wo'nt be long before they meet enough for him to pick things up again.

Thank you both. I may put redigrass into the hay rack. He isn’t even drinking himself at the moment. I got 15ml if critical care into him this morning and 10ml water and I had spinach for the little one so I tore bits of that up. I should be thankful he is willing to eat but I am so fed up! Part of the issue was that I’m reluctant to take him for a tooth trim unless they are really long because unless I get one specific vet they burr them too short.
