New Born Pup
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has ever had any problems with incontinence in their piggies post general anaesthetic. Our boar went under yesterday for X rays and bloods with our great exotics vet, as he has been losing weight. Absolutely nothing showing up on X-rays or bloods (a whole battery of things tested for including liver, kidneys, thyroid etc) which was surprising as thought something may have shown up. Since coming home, our boy teddy has been getting drenched in his own urine. I bathed him twice today, and checked on him after his evening bath and blow dry to find that within half an hour he was sodden again.
I have been in touch with the vet by phone, and he has asked me to monitor for a day longer, but he wouldn't usually expect this as a response to anaesthesia or the non invasive X-rays. It may be a coincidence that he has become incontinent the day after being at the vets perhaps? Currently I am syringe feeding to supplement ensure he is getting enough nutrients, although he is eating well. He is on metacam in case he is in any pain. He still has the "shell shocked" look of being post anaesthetic.
Not in search of magic answers (though that would be nice!) but if anyone has experienced similar and how they dealt with care/bedding to prevent sore skin that would be really helpful.
Yours worriedly ,
Angela X
