I'm hoping to get my garden done up in a few weeks so it will be off limits for the piggies :(
I was just wondering if anyone grows indoor grass for their piggies & if so what is the best type to get?

readigrass

I'm new to 'piggy caring' & loving every moment.:)

I bought my first bag of readigrass today, and am a bit disappointed.

I had the choice of either buying a huge bag......no way would it have fitted in my KA ....or a little bag £1.25 in a clear plastic bag, tied at the top.

Have I been conned ? as I thought it should have said readigrass on it, and been pre-packed........and also it looks the same as the hay I've been buying.

I imagined it would have looked greener......I guess they are opening the big bales of readigrass and bagging it up themselves.

Both Marmite & Twiglet loved it though...so I guess it's OK.

Fresh grass is the best, Readigrass is a decent substitute, as you say it is either a big bag for value or a little expensive bag. I find that not all of the pigs like RG. and that those that do like it will sometimes not eat it. Whether or not the flavour varies from bag to bag is open to opinion.

When my son got his piggies a few weeks ago I realised how much they love to eat the grass in the garden, I also realised we don't have much summer left. I decided to plant a mini lawn for them.

I got a litter tray and filled it with compost, then covered the whole area with loads of grass seed, really thickly coverd so it will make a dense mass, then lightly covered with soil.

I don't know how it will work out yet but it's started to grow and hopefully I can give the piggies a portable lawn through winter.

What a great idea!
I have a large lawn, but it's really not grown at all well this year, as too dry here in the South East!
I have lots of grass seed in the shed, and also a tray to plant it into, so I'm going to try that too...Thanks for that ;)

ooh now that is a good idea to try i may have a go at doing that myself?how long does grass take to grow?

Bren, readigrass is definitely green. I think you just got some ordinary hay.

I planted my seeds about 10 days ago and they have grown quite long. The only problem is they havent all sprouted at the same time and i think it will be a while before I can let the piggies in the tray to eat it. it's not like a lawn more a patch of dirt with a thin smattering of grass. Not sure if I should trim it.

I think you're right there, as I bought my first bag of readigrass from a small farm shop, it had just this one bag left :{

I've since bought some more online, and it's green, much nicer...or so Marmite & Twiglet say :))
