....just wondered how owners of unneutered bonded boars and unneutered bonded sows get on with indoor housing...

I presume that they mustn't be in the same room...(as boys would get a bit frisky!)

.....can they be on the same level? (i.e. boys in living room....girls in lounge)

... any of you who do have this situation - what set ups do you have in the house?

...Would it be advisable to change clothing when dealing with each "set" of piggies?

....just wondered.... any advice is appreciated
Many thanks
xx

i have a room especially for my guinea pigs. I have uneutered boars and sows in there and they seem to be fine. The boys do go up to the girls cage when its run time but they just say hello through the bars. maybe ive just been lucky but they get on fine for me.

I have 3 pairs of intact boars and a neutered boar living with 3 sows all in the same c & c unit in the same room! At first, when I got 2 of the sows, it was a bit iffy as my intact boars could smell them etc but it settled down in a week or so.

The intact boars cannot see the sows as they live above them (see pic) but I m very careful to use separate towels, brushes, change t shirt etc from handling one to another ;)

My boys and girls live next door to each other with no problems! Maybe a bit of chewing on the bars when one is in season. They love living close together and chat all the time!

My pair of un-neutered boys live over the top of a group of girls and neutered boy (C&C) and they get along just fine.:)

my guinea pigs live in an outbuilding my two bonded boars have 2 sows living in a hutch above them and 5 sows in a hutch beside them and i havent had any problems

I have two intact boars living alongside three sows and they've been good as gold, no problems at all. The boys love to stand on their back legs and peer through to try and catch a glimpse of flesh!

We just got another two sows over the weekend, and that set the boys off a bit - I presume that the sound and smell of new girls confused them slightly. The dominant boy started hassling our very chilled Sunny and so I separated them for safety's sake before anything got out of hand (or paw). After cleaning out their cage and letting them sit for a bit they're back to being best of friends.

So bringing other pigs into an already established group CAN rock the boat a little - it was something i'd worried about when we originally put the boys and girls together, but I presumed that everything would be fine with the addition of two more sows and it wasn't. So be aware of the slightest change of behaviour from your pigs.

I have two lots of two girls, and two lots of two boys. Side by side. No problems, they talk to each other all the time. But they will never meet up! I always handle, feed and clean etc. the boys first though. x

I have 2 pairs in seperate cages, a neutered boy with a girl in each cage.

I find that as long as the cages are the rooms width apart they get on no problems, if the cages are closer than a metre apart they get a bit grumpy with their cage mates.

They all use the same run area which obviously has all their scents on though with no problems at all.

I have my girls living above my boys, and most of the time, things are really good. But every few weeks or so, George gives Alfie abit of a hard time:{. They are 7 & 6 months old though, so that might have something to do withrolleyes. But things do settle down in the end, and they go bac to being the best of friends again!:))
