Hi everyone, as the title suggests - I’m looking at getting an indoor run / playpen for the pigs to use in the winter time.

I can’t let them loose in the living room as there’s too many places that they can hide when I want to capture them! I put them in the kitchen sometimes with hideys etc. But they slide around on the floor and so don’t do a lot of moving when I put them in there.

I want something that will provide more floor space than their 4x2 c&c cage - but will also fold away easily. Also any flooring ideas for it.

And pictures of your piggie playpens would be fabulous :D . TIA. x

If the kitchen is safe, maybe you could put a large fleece or 2 down on the floor so they don’t slide everywhere?

Or, I use to buy the hamster play pens that you can get from most pet shops. I’m not sure how much they are but 2 of them put together would make a good plan pen size for piggies

Thank you! I’ll have a look at the hamster ones, that not something I’d looked at :)

I put mine on the kitchen floor but it’s tiled so they did skid about. I use either a large blanket or fleece and all their hidies and stuff on top which stops them skidding about and makes it easier to clean up.

I have a proper wire run which can also be used outdoors, and I bring it inside to use in the Winter.
However the best indoor play pen I have is a bunch of C&C grids cable tied together.
I throw a fleece blanket on the floor, put the grids on top, and fill it with stuff to keep the piggies entertained - it works a treat.

I use grids zip tied together for my pens. They fold up easily too.

Bill and Ted’s play pen in the conservatory, folds up in a minute with storage bag. Waterproof zipped floor, zip top and side zipped windows, about 5ft diameter23188609-27DA-4AEE-97C8-02E849CFBFB5.webpdrink holder, fab size

£16 each in pets@home. Cheaper to buy c and c grids and they cant knock them down

This does look really good - and easy to launch anywhere! I second piggypoo’s question - do you line the floor somehow?

Yes it’s weatherproof and the base can be zipped out too. I place newspaper and then fleece on the top. Worked a treat we use it on holiday too-

That’s brill. I couldn’t find any that size though. Looked on eBay. They had small and medium - but I think yours is large. Hopefully they’ll get some more!

Yes it is large size, I did get mine on eBay. The base is waterproof. Hope you manage to find one x

I think this one is very similar in size 160 cm or 5ft diameter? It’s a medium size on eBay.

Hi everyone! Thank you for all the ideas you sent me! I nearly got the fabric-type playpen but then chickened out because I’ve got a nibbler who I swear could chomp through concrete if she tried!

But I liked that size - so went for a metal version that came with a waterproof base. I’ve just launched them in to try it out - once I get some spare fleece for it it will be better for them.

I've got that run and I love it. You can also get a cover/sun shade for the top and use it as an outdoor run so long as there are no cats or dogs around. It keeps them safe from flying predators. 20160729_105429.webp

Oh that’s good to know! Although my neighbour’s cats are killing machines and regularly visit my garden as their personal toilet - so I’ve got a nice sturdy wooden run that is cat proof.

I have to say that the size took me aback at first. But I’m impressed how small it folds up to store. It’s a good back-up cage too in case anyone needs quarantining or anything x
