Many of you will have read my thread - http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36797

I've decided to give Jennifer some Infant calpol however on the first aid list (http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=36634) it says

- Infant Calpol / Children’s Nurofen
For relieving pain and severe discomfort in cases of injury or illness.
The dosage for both medications is 0.2ml, given up to twice daily.

I'm guessing this is for an adult guinea pig, as jennifer is just over one month old I was wondering if anyone could sugest how much I should give her - if I should at all due to her age

Many thanks
x

I always advocate the use of a pain-killer if there is any doubt about the presence or absence of pain. In twenty one years experience of keeping guinea pigs I have never seen a pig so young that may benefit from a pain killer. However pain itself can lead to shock with unfortunate consequences, therefore I would give her 0.05ml of Calpol.
NB the dose: it is NOT 0.5ml.
0.05ml is a quarter of the adult dose
Without going into the pharmacology this should be a safe dose and one that I would be prepared to give to give to a pig of my own

Thank you for posting this publicly AP, it is useful to know. In my PM to Rawr, I reservedly advised 0.05ml, with the promise to check further. Medicating young guineas is perhaps my weakest point but logically the quarter-dose sounded right for a pig so small.

Perhaps "approximation" would have been a slightly better word for me to use.
