Okay, so my Dad put some chemicals on the grass (it was grass food he said to kill the weeds) on Monday morning. It is now Thursday and it has rained a bit between Monday and today. It's really sunny so I was wondering, would it be okay for me to put my guinea pigs in their run on the grass? Or is it too early? If it's too early, what day should I consider putting them out? Thank you in advance x

Oh dear. Not sure about that, I feed my front lawn but wouldn't feed the back lawn (it doesn't need it) because of the piggies eating on it. Personally I wouldn't take the chance, there must be chemicals in it. Find out the name of the product and perhaps email the company? Last year I heard of a lot of piggies being accidentally poisoned by garden lawn products. I use lawn feed to feed the lawn at the front, but would use weedkiller to kill weeds. Find out what your Dad has been using and go from there. I am no expert but I wouldn't take a chance. I wouldn't even pick dandelions from anywhere I wasn't happy with, like public verges etc. Good luck, my piggies love grass. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I wouldn't put mine on it for a few weeks as you don't know whats in the feed and if theres weeds in the grass which are poisoned there is a chance the piggies might eat them without realising. I would wait let a few good rains fall on it and cut it a few times before thinking of even putting them out on it again. I have an special patch for my boys i leave untouched :)

You need to wait until after the lawn has been cut 3-4 times after weed killer has been used to make sure that there are no longer any residual harmful chemicals in the grass blades. Right now, the chemicals have been washed into ground where they are being slowly absorbed by the roots. Sorry for the bad news, but weed killers can kill and/or seriously harm piggies.

I have a tortoise and when i buy plants for her i have to leave them for a month and wait for new growth before using them to allow the nasties to grow out, with grass its the same plenty of water and allow a month if cutting it weekly so would be 4 cuts before you can think of using it again.

It's likely still unsafe, I wouldn't risk it. My cousin lost two pigs this way... she had purchased a new house. A couple of weeks after she moved in, she put her piggies out in the backyard. She had not put any pesticides on the lawn and didn't really think about it. Unfortunately, the previous owners had put something on the lawn and it was a very sad outcome for the pigs.

We have buttercups on our lawn and to make the lawn safe again for the piggies I put some of this on a few days ago. I am going to leave it at least 2 weeks as suggested on the box probably longer.

I wouldn't risk putting them out on grass that had had any kind of treatments or chemicals on it. It's just not worth it in my opinion.
