Poor Oscar had op nearly 2 months ago,on saturday noticed he was wet where the stitches had been and there was a bad smell, took him straight to vet who said it seemed a sutcher inside had become infected or he had an abcess, either way it had burst through where the stitch had been. Poor wee man he is on anti-biotics and twice a day I have to clean and push out any puss and blood from inside, keeping the hole open to allow drainage. He seems lively and alert though. On the plus side he is getting on great with Song the female I rescued from Hutches, will post more about her another day.

Fingers crossed everything goes well, - just watch that he doesn't get a secondary infection, Guiness got a urine infection after the same thing - ( sorry reading your post is de ja vu)

How do you know when they have a urine infection, my pigs are on dark green fleece so cant really see where they have peed ?

I sat Guiness on a paper towel when giving him meds and he started to strain when tying to poo, as swollen and saw blood in his wee

It's great that his digestion is going well, however antibiotics, baytril especially, are notorious for upsetting their stomachs, and throwing them off their food. Keep an eye out, and any sign of trouble get some from your vet!

I'm so sorry to hear about poor Oscar. I hope he gets better soon

Update on Oscar. His infection seems to have cleared up, he was taken to the vets another twice during the last week as I was struggling to empty puss out of him, vet just gave a quick pinch in the right place and a load of puss came out again, he was much better after that. He is still getting anti-biotics everyday till they are finished. The vet has been great, he is very happy that all is well and Oscar is back to having his mad half hours.

Great news- its a shame they didn't tell you the right place to squeeze, I had same problem with Guiness, I couldn't get the puss out and was so worried about squeezing to hard and in the wrong place- could have done with some guidance myself

to be fair even when they showed me I still found it hard. especially on my own with a squirming pig in my hands, ha ha.

My Rebel was the same when he got infected after the snip. He was a very good patient lying on his back letting me treat him.

He hates getting his anti-biotics too, he backs up and turns his head away and gets his front feet up to push it away, but I'm bigger than him, plus I always have his favorite veg to hand to take the taste away, poor wee man.

How's Oscar today... ?

Creating Havoc... hopefully.. x

Well.... It's veggie time... it can get very noisy to say the least... ;)

Rebel, just lay on his back with his mouth open ready, I don't know where I've seen that action before!
