Hello!
I'm about to adopt a 2 year old peruvian boar to live with my 2 sows. The previous owner says that he has lived with other sows and never fathered any pups. I was thinking of having him neutered but would prefer not to if he is infertile. Has anyone else had a guinea pig who has demonstrated infertility without being neutered? When I was a child I had a peruvian sow who lived with a boar and she never had any pups, despite the boar fathering with other sows. Is this a quirk of the Peruvian, or simply a coincidence?
Just wondered if anyone had any stories or advice, as I would rather not get the boar neutered due to the risks involved.
Thanks!
:)

personally i would never chance an intact male with females.

if he is neutered by a cavy savy vet then the risks are reduced.

Personally, I would never chance it!

To be honest, i would not risk it, if you have the space for 2 separate cages permanently then i would take him boar dating to find another male companion for him, otherwise have him nuetered to live with your girls, it is not worth the risk, if he impregnates your girls you could run into huge complications with them and even lose them, especially if they are over a year old. So to be absolutely sure i would have him neutered then after 6 weeks he can live with your girls and you can live happily knowing you have 3 happy healhy piggies and not have any unexpected pregnancies.

i think this is more the case of the sows not accepting the male, than an infertile male. And for that reason one day she could accept. For that reason I dont believe this boar is infertisle! I would never chance it!

Don't risk it.
