Oh dear poorly truffle again. We took her to vets on Thursday as wasn't eating she was given 2 injections pain relief no antibiotics the get said her stomach seemed a little inflamed. She perked up Fri/Sat but today back down hill went to emergency vet very inflamed bladder piggy in lot of pain she had 3 injections while there now got to give her 0.4ml of metacam once a day, 0.6ml of emeprid 3 times a day and 0.45ml of baytrill twice a day. Poor baby it's been an expensive day but she was very poorly. Was wondering about the emeprid it says every 8hrs but due to work it might be nearer 10hrs is this ok do you think? Sorry for long post xx

Sorry that your girl is poorly. I'm not sure what the official line on the emeprid is, but I can't imagine it would be a problem - I've had to do exactly the same thing as you due to work commitments and my piggy (who was recovering from bloat) came to no harm for having one dose a bit later than planned.

I would say it would be ok, at the end of the day you have to work, so as long as you give it as soon as you get home, it should be fine. My pigs don't always get their meds within the correct timescales due to work commitments. Does the vet think it is an infection? if so Septrin tends to be more effective than Baytril for a UTI. A product called Cystease can also help with bladder inflammation.

I would ask vet to X ray ,
l had a pig that had a assess on the intestin , and if the vet had thought to X ray
it may have saved the pigs life , it wasn't till the pig died and he was autopsied did she(vet) realise
the extent the extent of the problem,
If your vet is not good at reading gp's X rays , then ask him if he will consult college's

I still haven't forgiven that vet , she is still at the practice ,

That is quite a drug cocktail , I am pritty shure that much meds , will upset the tummy , batril is known to in flame the tummy lining,

Me I would see another vet, ASAP ,
if there is no other vets at that practice , then you can find another vet and ask for the case history to be forwarded , (you have no need to change you vet)
You are just getting a second opinion ,

Good vets do it all the time as do doctors

Thanks everyone I thought 3 lots of different meds is a lot! The vet is fairly certain it's an infection. They would have kept her there and issued her the meds at £100 per day! It would have stressed her being in a strange environment and i think me and hubby are dedicated enough to do it even though the look of hate on her face is getting worse each time we pluck her from the cage lol xx

Is she pooing ok? as the Empeprid is usually given if a pig is not pooing properly?

No the vet tried giving her little belly a squeeze and no poops. There was a couple of small ones earlier nothing like what she normally does. I've got to give the vet a ring as they didn't say how long she has to be on these meds for :-(

HI there , just a point worth considering
You will not get poos out by squeezing, tummy ,

Me I would change vets

Poo output corresponds with how much is going in too, how is her eating? Did the vet think her tummy felt hard at all? or bloated?

Emeprid should ideally only be for a couple of days. Plenty of fluids will also help, and gentle massage too or sitting her on something that vibrates. You should only do this if the vet is certain that there isn't a blockage though.
