Does anyone have any info or knowledge on abscesses bursting internally? If this happens, what is the treatment? Can the pig be cured? Google doesn't give much information at all about it. I see it can lead to septicemia but looking for whether there is any cure for this etc?

You will need a very strong antibiotic to prevent the infection from spreading around the body.

Any worries about Milan? Is his abscess coming back?

Hi Wiebke. Last night when I felt milan's 'lump' i thought it had grown but then this morning I was sure that it had decreased. I started to panic and made myself sick in the process as I assumed that it had burst internally. After trying to research as much as possible, I felt it again and now I'm not sure whether it's shrunk in size or whether it's my mind playing games. I've tried to stay calm and try and remember the size last night as opposed to this morning but I can't work it out. Rosie doesn't think it's changed since last night but I just don't know now. No idea what to do x

Take a deep breath and don't panic! It is most likely your mind playing games.

If necessary, measure the lump with a tape, so you have got an impartial measurement if there really are changes.

The lump still seems the same size as this morning but still unsure as to whether it was bigger last night or whether I'm just going crazy. Milan is happy and seems well so I'm hoping it was my imagination!

Does anyone know what the first signs would be if it had ruptured internally? I'm guessing that by the time any symptoms show then it would be too late to treat?

The hard ball would disappear/shrink significantly very suddenly. Personally, having seen it myself when Milan was staying here, I would think it HIGHLY unlikely. It is FAR too small to be in any even remote danger of doing that. You are talking about multiple sizes of his lump swelling up before there would be any problem. ;)

The first sign of septicemia would be loss of appetite and looking very off. You may also notice swollen lymph nodes, depending where the infection goes.

Thanks Wiebke, you and Debbie have put my mind at rest :)

I would contact Simon if you notice that the lump has doubled in size very suddenly. If Debbie hasn't got space, Milan can come here if necessary. One of us should be around.
