Information Needed

Could you try another vet for a second opinion? I personally don't see how taking veg away will help.

Were they not having unlimited hay before?

Don't be embarrassed! There are things you can do like syringe feeding and weighing that can really help. Are there any rescues that can help? Maybe set up a payment plan? I'm not rich either but there must be a way?
 
Guinea pigs aren’t necessarily a popular pet here and most shelters don’t even take them let alone treat them.

That's a shame :( I wish people would catch up with their care as there are so many in this world! That's always my argument about a lot of vets in the UK too :(

It's worth asking, it's imperative to get some food into them at this stage. I've picked a few up from a local pharmacy before too and they were dirt cheap so I don't know if that's an option?

Your biggest enemy right now is gut stasis which is life or death, so syringe feeding is key. My Iggy also eats it off a spoon so it would be worth trying that in the meantime to try to get them to eat more.
 
Are the piggies eating veg okay? Are they pooing? I am unsure why the vet is saying take them off veg.
 
I’m not sure either. Poos are normal and no bloat. They happily cried for it and yanked it from my hand.

I wouldn't be taking my pigs off veg without a good medical reason, normally bloat would be a case for removing veg until it had passed and during this time you'd be syringe feeding mushed up pellets or critical care. I would ask the vet why they have asked you to remove veg from their diet? I would want to know their reasoning behind this otherwise you stand to make things worse.

What veg are you feeding them? Please list a typical day food in amounts...

My advice would be to see another vet
 
I have just read through this thread and just wondered if you could clarify some things.
Am l right that you have several piggies and 2 have died and another 2 are losing weight but appear well and are eating normally?
Do the piggies all live together in a group?
Are they inside or outside?
What do you normally feed them, do they feed on grass or forage that could be contaminated?
Are you in an urban or a rural area?

I live in the suburbs. They are always inside.
Two have died in a similar manner about 1 month apart. Out of the remaining 5, 2 are starting to show similar symptoms to the ones that died. One maybe starting to show signs and another has no symptoms at this time. They all lived separate except for 2 of the e females. However they live very near one another.
