I feel soo stupid.. i put cooling mat in their cage today for the heat with frozen water bottle too.. and one of them..somehow was able to chew trow the tick fabric and got to the gel bit.. i don't know what to do.. he looks alright for now , nothing stange just laying down more..which i though was because of the heat..

What brand is your mat? Alot of the ads state they are non toxic. Still, it's wise to keep an eye on your piggy. I use them and they did get some nibbles initially but I put them back when the temps got to 30cm as they can be cooled in the fridge and my hot tired piggies are more interested in lying on them than chewing them atm. As soon as the temps start going down I will remove them again. I think they would be safe inside a fleece wrapper or in a sock.

Hi

What a shock. Please try not to panic and try not to anxiety hover.

Please just keep an eye on him for 2 days and contact your vet if you notice anything amiss. With a little luck, no harm is done.

Lying down more could be much more likely a sign of overheating. Here is our comprehensive and detailed hot weather guide, which also includes a wide range of tips on what you can do to get the room temperature down as well as safe alternatives to cooling elements.

We generally do not recommend gel pads because guinea pigs are prone to gnawing through them. They love to explore with their mouths.
