Have myself a neutered boar with 3 sows. He is a big softy and lets the girls get away with murder. This morning I gad them out and noticed this on hus back not sure if one of the girls has had a go or its something else.20180301_122657.webp20180301_122652.webp

Looks nasty and very sore poor piggy! Take him to the vet to get it looked at only a vet can diagnose and treat.

oh my.

I'd be thinking possibly mites. You need a vets visit.

Please have your piggy seen by a vet asap. This looks typical for self-inflicted harm from either ringworm or mange mites. The treatment differs, so you need a diagnosis from a hands-on examination.

If you suspect ringworm, please follow our hygiene guidelines in order to prevent any further spread to others (including yourself).
Ringworm: Hygiene And Pictures

Hi, my job largely consists of dealing with Pig that have ringers, whilst i wouldn't diagnose, this doesnt look like typical ringworm. Is the skin white and patch or flaky at all around the area, and is there any other signs of spread around the body?. By the looks of the wound it looks as if it has been bitten, as the wound looks like an upper and lower bite. Personally, id recommend taking to a vet just to be on the safe side but if not, then treat it at home with some cooled boiled kettle water and salt or hibi scrub diluted. Also keep any eye out for any dominant behaviours exhibited by your other piggos! goodluck!

Got him to the vets finally thanks weather. It is a bite wound probably from the head female of the herd. Vet gave the wound a clean and just told me to keep an eye on the wound.

So the wound is scabbing over nicely but he is not a happy piggy. Took him back to the vets and even though he is sure its still a bite wound and nothing else all the piggys have now been dosed up with spot on. And my wounded boy now has antibiotics and pain medication. Already strutting his stuff round the cage going WELL HELLO GIRLS I'm BACK.
