Hi all, Got new piggy on Friday night, 5 and 1/2 months old. Had a good old argey bargey between her and our other 2 sows (same age) on Friday night (now all friends). Found this on her back last night (I. E. 3 days after quarrel). It's not open, not inflamed, not tender. Do you think it's a bit of a scrape from Fridays affray, now healing, or a possible skin condition she had in the pet shop.?

I did not realise you got her from a pet shop. Did you quarantine her for two weeks before introducing her to your other sows?

No, didn't know to do that,(only have one cage anyway) just did what Pet shop said, forgot to upload photo...

Poor girl, that looks rather sore. Please have her checked by a vet for a correct diagnosis and don't home treat on spec with a low dosed shop product. It could be mange mites or fungal (both of which she could have picked up at the pet shop). You will have to treat your two other girls as well.

We have got a piggy vets locator on the top bar if you need one.
Here is our ringworm thread, just in case: https://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/threads/ringworm-hygiene-and-pictures.115402/

Thank you. I don't think it's ringworm as I've seen it in horses and caught a patch myself, long ago. It isn't actually sore or tender at all to touch which is why I thought it was maybe a scrape from Fridays introduction which is now scabbed over, it was more flat the day before.

Unfortunately no vet near me in your locator, so if it isn't looking better today will take her to the vet I got my first 2 checked out at, which is supposed to have one who is experienced with exotics (the one we originally saw moved on to vets 4 pets). (in Hoylake)

It's looking a bit smaller today, so I will check it every morning and night and shoot out to the vet asap if it doesn't continue to decrease in size. There is no evidence of anything else on her, and they did have a pretty energetic dominance phase.

Will take her for a 'health check ' tonight, the vet who checked our other 2 has moved to a vets 4 pets nearby and I have a voucher to cut the cost down. Would not necessarily pick this chain, tho no personal experience, but the vet who checked our other 2 was very thorough, had a nice manner and handled them very well, even showed me how to clip nails while we were there.

One of my piggies had a sore/wound which looked very similar. I treated with Ivermectin (from online store VetUK - I think) and it cleared up very quickly, although it may have been from a piggie squabble. I wasn't sure which but it cleared up no problems. If you decide not to go to the vet, then a dab with some saline solution may help. :)

Thank you, I think I may have tried that as it's not sore or even tender, but as a voucher came for a health check for £10, I may as well get her all checked over.

Yes she is fine now, I never actually thought of a scab from a dominance disagreement as they get on so well. so I treated for mites and it cleared up but it would have anyway without the Ivermectin if it was a scab. I will know for a possible next time!

Well I guess, better safe than sorry, tho if she hadn't been new I may have been happier keeping an eye on it, but there was always a chance it could have been something she could pass on! Glad yours is ok
