I didn't have enough Ivermectin to treat all of my piggies at the end of last month so rather than wait until I could get some I decided to use the Johnsons Insecticidal shampoo for small animals that I'd had sitting in my cupboard for a while ( obviously only on the adults - Rocket is too young and I couldn't use Ivermectin on him either as he was recovering from his abcess cleaning episode at the vets ). This was 30th July. My question is this: is the shampoo effective for as long as the spot treatments? I don't want to give them a dose of the Ivermectin too early if the ingredients from the topical shampoo is still present in their systems, at the same time I don't want to leave them unprotected for any length of time either. Would you wait until the end of August to spot treat for prevention?
Thanks
Andrea x

Hellooooooo.........I'm bumping this.....:)

hiya, i use this to bathe my piggys, just whenever they look (or smell) like they need it doing once a month or so. i've always been told that if the pigs are clean and there's no poo in the hair or anything they wont get fly strike. mine live inside aswell, if yours live outside they might need bathing abit more regularly. but if you're worried you can get an insecticidal spray that you spray on after a bath which will last abit longer x

Insecticidal shampoo doesn't work against mites. I found that my piggies were itching within two days again when I used it right at the beginning before I could get (injected) ivermectin treatment at the vets after the weekend to see whether it would bridge the gap until the ivermectin would kick in. Never bathe within two days of using topical treatment.

The only thing that works against mites is an ivermectin product.

Okay dokes, thanks. My Animed order should be here a in a day or two, I'll spot treat them with Xeno 450 as soon as it's arrived. Btw, they are indoor piggies but go outside in their run during the day when we're at home and the weather's nice ( which is most of the time at the mo! ).

mine too, they had to stay inside most of last week with the rain, and they looked suicidal! haha! they're finally back out today munching on all the grass :) x

Mine stayed in for a couple of days when it didn't stop raining but the rest of the time I kept rushing out when it stopped raining in the afternoon and drying the grass off with a kitchen towel so that they could get out for a few hours - the neighbours are probably convinced by now that I'm completely mad...@).
