Hello guinea pig people!

I am looking for some recommendations of what guinea pig insurance you guys use, and if you would recommend doing it? Any advice is much appreciated. Many thanks - Sam 😊

ExoticDirect | The UK's Top Exotic Pet Insurance Provider
Exotic Direct is used by Squeaky Dreams on You Tube. She replied to questions so may tell you about it. I am a bit sceptical as it doesn't cover dental issues. You renew after about ten months and prior issues could be excluded from the renewed contract, I gather. Which limits its usefulness, I think. I think there may be an age limit for guinea pigs as well, but I could be mistaken.

Most of us don’t have insurance. There are very few which insure piggies - exotic direct used to be the only one who would (don’t know if they still are the only one). With excesses and exclusions it didn’t usually work out and instead most of us just save into a separate bank account and call it our ‘vet fund’ so money is available as and when needed.

Yes we watch squeak dreams on YouTube. That’s a bit odd that it doesn’t cover dentil issues 🤔. Thank you so much for this x

I think teeth are probably the main long term issue piggies can have. Everything else (possibly except bumblefoot) either gets better after one or two treatments or ops or goes down hill quickly. Calcified bulla syndrome can cause several episodes of illness, but probably not very expensive episodes. I could be wrong though. It would be interesting to hear about costly chronic non tooth related conditions.

We have been quite lucky with teeth problems, our piggies have only had a tooth issue once in 3 years. Also we Have insured one of our guinea pigs but as Teddy is due to go to the vets next week we will have to wait 3 months till he can be insured.
