I'm not sure how it is in the UK but in the US I heard it's possible to put insurance on your Furry Friends would you put insurance on your pig? I wouldn't because my Pig isn't an item it's a living thing

Your reason for not insuring is that your pig is a living thing? You do realise the insurance isn't against loss, theft or death but actually for health problems to help with vets bills? In the same way that dogs and cats have insurance and in the US the same way that humans have insurance?

I don't insure my pigs because there is only one company that does it and the cost to insure all mine comes to more than bills I've had in a 12 month period, apart from one unfortunate year. However there are members on here that have had vets bills over £2000 in a year and the insurance has covered the majority of the bill

Pet insurance in the UK Is to cover veterinary bills only.
If you had an award winning super star famous Guinea Pig from whom you made an income, then I am sure, at the right price, you might be able to insure it in the same way that models insure their looks or violinists insure their hands against loss or damage.

in Italy it does not exist and I would not do it because medical insurances are always very good in asking you the money but when you start being seriously ill they stop the contract with you... and it happens even with pets. You can save some money the first time, the second time... but then when your pet has some cronic disease, all the money you have given for ages to the company will never be spent for him. This is what happens in Italy and even abroad, in UK, where a friend of mine is quarreling with the company for her ill cat who is now too old and too ill for the insurance.
For humans it happens just the same...
of course I am talking of those insurance which SHOULD pay your healthy bills. You are referring, though, to another insurance, the one for the life... that is if my car is stolen or if I die or if my hands are ruined (and I am a violinist) I can get a sum of money. This is another story...
The big trouble with the piggies is the vet bill when they will fall ill and will need an exotic vet. Of course companies are not fool...
It is better to put aside a little sum of money and if the piggie will die of pneumonia or a stroke in two days and without expensive bills, you will have saved the sum for another piggie.

I don't personally insure my animals but I have a separate bank account for my vet fund so I know I'm covered. I add to it every pay day. I have so many animals that it would probably cost a fortune, it's easier for me to put money away :)

Insurance isn't just for items, don't you need health insurance in America? It's basically health insurance for your pets.

Yes in America you do need Health Insurance through the Affordable Care Act passed by our former President. Is it the same in the UK?

the insurance is a private company and not a missioner, they have to earn money from the clients. If there are a lot of clients paying a certain sum, statistically they know how thing will go, that is: piggie A will die for a stroke (no cost), Piggie 2 will die for pneumonia (little cost), Piggie 3 will need dentals and will develop bladder stones. Okay. But when Piggie 3 will start costing too much, you owner will be asked to pay a higher premium... and at a certain point the insurance will refuse to sign again the insurance for the next year. Unless there are millions owners and the whole money earned can be enough for everybody.
Moreover, there is always the franchice clause... you will pay the quote of insurance and then another "little" quote everytime you need that insurance paying. And: usually you have to pay at first the bill, then you will obtain money back... sometimes insurance doesn't agree with the doctors' decision... etc.
You shoud read carefully the papers of the contract and it would be better if you ask a lawer or a vet about the hidden lines of the contract...

Does anyone know where I can purchase insurance!
I got a quote from Exotic Pets insurance in the UK but didn't take it further. The reason I enquired was that my beautiful piggy had 6 visits to the vet in 3 weeks which added up to quite a lot financially so if its for you, go for it.

I'm not aware that there is a plan in my country that covers exotics... only dogs and cats. It could potentially reimburse the cost of medical emergencies, but you have to read the fine print to see what is covered (my cousin was relieved have insurance for her dog when her dog developed hip dysplasia, only to find that because it is a common problem in her breed of dog, it wasn't covered by her policy!) I would look into if it was available, depending on what was covered. One of my past pigs cost me a ton of money in vet bills due to dental and bladder issues. She was worth it, but over the years, SO much money!
