Insuring Your Piggie...

exotic direct are the only ones who offer insurance for guinea pigs i believe. i have mine insured with them and they've been great with the claims we have made. i think the cost is reasonable for the service we have got from them, and it's always worth it for peace of mind. i'll continue to insure any future piggies with them :)

You have to remember that insuring a piggy is much cheaper than insuring a dog or a cat - it's just that most of us have more than the 1 pig! I currently pay £45 a month to insure my lot - and after 3 years of nothing have had over £3500 of vets bills with my lot over the past 18 months - I would however insist with exotic direct that you want to insure each piggy individually otherwise they will pop them all on the same policy and you will only be able to claim up to £2000 between them all - (Bumble on his own last year came to £2015 ) and then another £1500 for Nuggets and Noodles - so if they had all been on the same policy it would have cost me the same in premiums but I wouldn't have had enough cover to meet my bills - hope this helps.

Very useful Tan, yes. The excess was a bit off-putting though, £65 seems steep and looks as though it would negate a lot of the costs. I need to weigh it up. Insurance is such a gamble, isn't it? I guess part of it is that I have unemployment cover and critical illness etc for myself and it comes to a similar amount and I would be asking for £££'s for decades for that price! But there is a competitive market which will help with pricing.
