Hi I'm new to this site but I'm just searching for tips on the best way to introduce a new pig in to the mix. We originally had two rescue boys and recently one sadly died. He stayed in his hutch for 2 days without coming out so we decided very quickly we didn't want him in his own. The next day clover and teazel arrived, a mother and daughter pair from a friends rescue. They got on pretty well instantly. Now a vet I work with is unable to keep his older piggy due to housing issues (she currently also lives on her own which he hates the idea of). So we are taking her on Sunday to mix in with our group but just want to know the best way to do it. Any ideas are appreciated and I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times! (I'm hoping that's the case then that way you will already know the best answers).thanks for your help! I've attached a picture of our three below :-)xx

I am introducing a new female to my group of 5 females at the moment. I have had to partition a part of the 5 girls hutch off at the moment and every day I put the new girl in the one half so she can see and sniff the others through the bars and vise versa. Not ideal, I know, being in their run (its part of their hutch) but it was the only way I could to it consistently so they have the best chances of being ok when I let them all roam together. I have done this for 2 weeks now and am hoping to let them together this weekend, though I am hoping to do this on the lawn :)

Hello. Welcome to the forum. Your guinea pigs are so cute.

When you get a new piggy it is always best to quarentine them for two weeks to ensure they do not pass on anything to your little ones. This thread will explain how to introduce a New Guinea pig,

I am very sorry for your loss. You are welcome to post a tribute on the rainbow bridge thread.
That's all great advice thank you! We are looking forward to introducing her. She is quite a placid little lady so I'm hoping she will settle I'm well. She's stayed over before when we piggy sat but never mixed her with the boys which looks like that was a good idea. I've just added a picture of Matilda below :-)
