Not stupid Hun..you did the right thing. Glad you got him to the vet and they found the cause..brilliant news and hope Cashew is now is relatively pain free.........

Hope you both get a good night's sleep tonight..(as per our telecon....keep a watchful eye on his guts and give me a bell if you have any concerns!)...

I wanted to note: Those with cavy-savy vets, I'd appreciate it, if you were passing by your vets, if you asked about permanent scarring on the penis wall (used as an entry to get to a stone) being a reason for euthanasia. It's a big decision I might have to make and I'd rather be completely informed in making that decision.

Don't worry (re: upsetting) if I don't talk about it here I'll probably never talk about it.

I'm not completely certain; I'm assuming scarred tissue is uncomfortable and perhaps at risk of becoming infected or inflamed during future infections. The vet thinks he WILL get bladder stones again in the future so I'm not sure if what he said was related to that or not. I'm not sure of the nature of scar tissue, is there any reason why it would be a problem on such a delicate area? Perhaps it's along the same lines of organ scarring that it could cause a lot of unethical discomfort in the future?

I will be sure to ask why and what to look out for when I collect him tomorrow. If I have to make that decision, and such a permanent and drastic decision, I want to make it knowing why and that it's the right decision.
 
Unfortunately I have no good news to report today.

Cashew isn't recovering well from the anaesthetic, which in context isn't surprising because he had the surgery last night about 5 o'clock and if it were a morning surgery then today at this time he would still be shaky, but generally it's not really good because a slow recovery from anaesthetic can point to heart problems.

(profanity) awesome. :(

He hasn't started eating on his own, but I told them that the last time he had anaesthetic he didn't recover immediately and I did have to hand feed him, then hand feed him more as he began to eat properly.

I've also learned that my control freak tendencies mean that not having Cashew with me just now is driving me up the wall because I can't control what the vets do to him, only try and influence it by telling them things about him; such as "when you hand feed him, you really have to give him a "drown or chew" ultimatum..."

I'm sending my vibes to poor Cashew! I hope that he will make it!

What was found at my Minx' second bladder operation was that Minx had actually more of a (most probably cancerous) growth (sorry, can't remember the proper word for it, it was something p-) in her bladder around which a bowl-shaped bladder stone had formed. The cause for the growth was assumed to be the constant irritation of the bladder wall.

Bladder Problems

I sympathise with you as i have had similar problems with my Darcy..in my picture.He had bladder op for stones and grit and had a recent set back 8 weeks post op of cystitis.He is now on on Cystaid a drug usually given to cats for similar problems but now licensed for cavies.He is on it long term and has had no problems for 5 weeks now.An exotic vert recommended it to my vet as its good for this kind of reoccuring complaint.

I'm just back from visiting him. He's completely doped up on pain medication, was limp yet responsive and had force-feeding drool on his chin. He looked so pathetic.

Luckily for me, there was a cat housed beneath him who wanted attention so my visit wasn't completely doom and gloom.

I really want to bring him home.
 
I have to call them at 7 to see how he's doing. If they call before then, it means he's going down hill.

I'm going to ask to bring him home, then. If he isn't going to make it, I don't want him to not make it in unfamiliar surroundings.

I feel so numb.
