I'm hopefully rescuing 2 pairs of sows. If it carries through, would it be best to introduce them to each other as soon as they get to their new home, or let them settle in a bit?

I would let them settle in a little bit first to their new surroundings. Are the pairs bonded between themselves?

I would give them some time to settle in first before doing it. You can make sure no-one has any illness too etc.... that way

Okay. I doubt either pairs will though as they are cared for very well at the rescue centre. Would it be best to introduce in a c&c area or out in my garden where they're running free? I've tried in my garden before but they got very feisty but maybe it's the same wherever you introduce.

Neutral ground always best for introductions, so no territorial scents associated with any piggy. Somewhere where you can step in easily to part anybody fighting( use thick towel or ovengloves to keep piggy teeth away from your fingers!). Plenty of hay, some step-stools or two-exit hideys provided for them and keep your fingers crossed. But definately give them settling in time first. If a foursome just won't work then be ready to leave them as two pairs.:)
