Hey there!

I have three sows at current, they are around 5 months old. Caramel is currently the alpha I would say but she rumbles so much and honestly it's worrying and I'm cautious for the other two. There isn't much aggression but they all seem to be fighting for the hierarchy position.
I have heard that introducing a boar can be worth his weight in gold when it comes to becoming the alpha. What are your thoughts and stories?

If you want to know they are in a 5 x 5 two tier c and c cage which can be extended if needed for the possible boar.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I think - and I don't know much about sows, but going by what I've picked up on the forum - that adding a neutered boar can sometimes settle them a bit, but it's actually usually a sow who is the group leader even with a bloke in the mix. I think you need someone with more experience of girlies to advise on whether it's a good idea, but I personally don't see why not. You'll make a single boar very happy if nothing else.

@Reenie Velvet was DA BOSS but in a coup, Chrisitian took over and is now DA NEW BOSS. Decided he didn't like Dennis being in his space where as he tolerated him before cos Velvet always sorted out any squabbles between them and I have had to split my herd which has been in a happy place for two and a half years. Dennis is much happier without Christian around.

No boss boars at my house, Theo, Ollie and my husband piggy daddy are fairly submissive laid back males! I think a laid back boar can calm minor tensions within groups of ladies, especially when one is in season and prone to be bossy, the boar gets all the bossiness and doesnt mind because its from a sexy lady... but only if the ladies accept him into the group, the herd politics will shift a bit to start with... joining ladies is a steep learning curve for a chap!

I know, what a shocker! It makes me worry for my trio. If your miracle group can split after all that time, there could still be trouble ahead for my three amigos

I've never seen a boar as the boss. My first two boys were neutered as they were just too blinking soft to get on with other boars and always ended up fighting so it's no real surprise that they didn't try to become boss.

My current boar is Donald and he's a bit more bossier. That said he sometimes gives as good as he gets when it comes to Daisy but she is still quite clearly the boss.

Christian has always had a strong personality and has been 2nd in command for ages since Betsy started losing her sight. Then I noticed that Velvet didn't challenge him anymore and didn't intervene in squabbles between him and Dennis like she used to and Dennis started losing weight and looking miserable.

My comment wasn't directed at you. It was a general comment about the boys I have had :)
