Three weeks ago on Monday my wee Boar is Sammy was neutered. Well now we are at the point where we need to start introducing him to our wee girls. Whats the best way to do this? we have put them together very briefly today, under supervision and also close enough that if he gets "excited" we can stop him.
At every opportunity he tried to mate with them, is this likely to be his behaviour? I thought that, simaler to dogs and cats, that the mating instinct would diminish. Is this not the case?

We are sitting the two girls on my wives knee, and Sammy on my knee. Just close enough for them to get used to each others scent. He is sitting "rumble strutting" 98) and trying to get near to them. When he does get closer Bella gives him a wee bite if he gets to keen.

Any advice anyone?

hi
My lenny lives with 5 of my girls. He still tries to mate them and most of the time they let him have his fun but every now and then they show him who's boss. They will all rumble and teeth chatter at each other but they will be fine. I put all of mine on the floor in a pen for about 5 hours the first time they all met. i let them get on with it and work out who was boss and now they all live happily together. From my experience you need to put them together and leave them together as letting them meet and taking them apart again can upset them. If they aren't actually figthing where they are drawing blood then they will be fine. its worked for me. xx

from what i can understand a fixed male should not be put with females until 6 weeks after the surgery as somehow he is still able to get the girls pregnant :o :o :o so i would not intoduce sammy to your girls for another 3 weeks. i am hoping someone with more knowledge will come along. perhaps you could send a message to maryh who would be able to tell you for sure. O0 but i DO know a fixed boar has to wait 6 weeks before meeting his future harem :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: good luck O0 when introducing do it slowly as the girls may not accept him and do it in neutral terrority. and keep an eye on them when you do O0 our late dog dusty was fixed and right up to age 14 he still tried to have a go :o :o :o some men just can't take a hint ;D ;D ;D

Well ive had 3 boars neutered and as long as they are healed i have put them with the girls after 3 weeks under advisement of my vet

They will still mount nothing will stop them doing that is their instinct

It was our vet that told us to wait three weeks before introducing the pigs and one further week before letting them live together. Sammy is going daft on his own

Yeah I would wait four weeks. The rumbling/mounting/and all is normal boar behaviour, and it will eventually settle down. It may feel like he's harassing the girls a bit, but they soon will tell him off.

I was told 6 weeks post-op was the advisory time to wait as the boar can still have sperm in his "tubes" capable of making a sow pregnant.

When you do decide to introduce them, as has been said above, do it on neutral territory. Perhaps for a short while at a time and see what happens.
