Arfur came to visit from The Potato Patch Rescue about a month ago as a potential new friend for Maud. He was found abandoned in a woodland, emaciated, unsteady on his feet due to lack of Vitamin C and with mange mites. He has spent a few months in the rescue recovering and then post-neuter but is very small for a 1 year old and may never grow much bigger due to the malnutrition he suffered. There is also the possibility that he could have longer term issues but at the moment he is in good health.

He is a kooky little boy who has shown no fear of us from the moment we took him out the carrier. He is such a happy piggy, popcorns all the time and runs zoomies around the cage and just sleeps wherever he is (which can be in the middle of the cage or, rather oddly, with just his head in one of the beds!. He certainly has character.

We kept him in a cage adjacent to Maud for 2 weeks, where they could interact through the bars and all seemed to going well. Sadly, when it came to bonding Maud did not like him at all, even though he was very gentlemanly. She took one look at him and launched herself across the run like a crazed piggy.

However, Arfur had already found his way into hearts and we really didn't want to return him to the rescue. Our other option was to try and bond him with Lily and Belle. Belle is very bossy and we thought it probably would not work out but decided to give him a chance. In a surprising turn of events the girls accepted him without too much fuss and they are living happily together.

He has proved to be a very expensive piggy as we had to buy a larger cage, containers for storage (as the hay and fleece was stored under our one large cage) and move the whole piggy room around to accommodate this.

Maud has got a larger loft now too for when she finds herself a new friend.

A few photos of our new arrival.

Welcome Arfur, you are a handsome chap. Congratulations on getting yourself two lovely wives ❤️

Poor Arfur, what a terrible time he had. It was so lucky he was found and nursed back to health. He is such a lucky piggy to have found you and two lovely new wives. Life is on the up Arfur!

How lovely that you have given Arfur his forever home - he looks very happy with Belle and Lily ❤️❤️❤️
Hopefully Maud will find a friend soon 🥰

What a transformation from a pig with 'arf fur to a very handsome boy. He's a lucky chap to have found a home with you and your girls.
I kept his name from the rescue and you are right it comes from him only having half is fur. I think i may register him as Arthur at the vets (or Wee Mad).

So glad he Acura has found his way to you both, he will have the very best life now, safe and loved 💙

Welcome Arthur!
What a stunning boy. His story reminds me a bit of Odi's. He also had very little fur left when he was rescued and he seemed to feel at home with us from day one.
He is so funny. We take the piggies downstairs in a fleece bag (for floor time) but Arfur absolutely refuses to get in it. He actually likes to be picked up and carried in my arms. He is definitely a piggy who knows his own mind.

Oh welcome little Arfur. What a lucky little lad he is finding such a fabulous home after such a rotten start in life. I’ll bet he thinks all his Christmases have come at once.

Welcome Arfur.
You are a very lucky and handsome boy. A brilliant new home and 2 lovely wives.
Looking forward to hearing all about your adventures.xx

That first picture is so sad, poor boy.

How lovely for him that he’s now in a loving home with friends ❤️🥰

A little update.. Being a husboar obviously suits Arfur and our small 750g piggy now weighs 1kg. It goes to show how much difference it makes when a piggy has company of their own kind.

He also instigated a breakout. We recently had to set-up for floor time in our shower room, using C&C to divide it into two. We were cleaning out the cages when suddenly there were a lot of disgruntled piggy noises and we found that somehow Arfur had somehow managed to move the divider and every pig was running around in Pongo's half of the room. Rosie and Val (Pongo's girls) were not happy about this at all. Thankfully, Pongo was too distracted by food to notice immediately, otherwise i think would have been breaking up a fight. Chaos ensued as Allan and I tried to grab piggies and put them back into the right part of the room, of course they were not at all cooperative. Arfur was eventually sent back to his half of the room in disgrace but there was a rather mischievous glint in his eye. The barrier was of course reinforced but i think i need to keep an eye on our escape artist, he is full of surprises.

Major diplomatic incident... Thankfully they end with surprisingly few fights between the husboars in my own experience; they tend to keep out of each other's way initially. But yeah, out come the cable ties!

Sorry I missed this whole thread.
Congratulations on Arfur’s arrival- he’s certainly landed on his paws with you.
He sounds a real character 😁
