I am just wondering if any body has had 3 boars together and if it worked? I no i have a couple of weeks yet but i am thinking ahead, i guess all i can do is try to bond them and hope for the best!

I really would not risk it as it could cause your boars to fall out which would be such a shame. Boar trios rarely work.

I believe four months is the absolute minimum for neutering. Please make sure you use a vet who has performed that surgery many times before if you decide to go down that route :)

I was given a trio from a rescue! The rescue turned out to be less than reputable! Unfortunately toffee died of pneumonia, which left me with treacle and fudge. I don't think it was going to work, I would have probably have had to rehome/split fudge if toffee had survived. I ended up with, Two sets of two with Pigson and teddy too!

I dont really want to part with him, he is so sweet. He will have to live by himself for a few months then!

Oh dear, I don't want kevin and charlie to fall out! I am definietly not going to risk it. You'd think a rescue would no better! Sorry to hear about Toffee

Adding a baby to an existing pair is still recommended on some sites and in some places that rely mainly on breeder advice. However, it is NOT advisable with two sub-adult boars. Even with adult boars, it can tip the balance and cause a fall-out problem when the youngster is growing up. At the worst, you can end up with the three single boys. Generally our advice is when it comes to boars - don't break what is not broken!

If you are worried about the youngster being on his own, you could try and see whether they work out as a trio until the youngster hits the hormones (which means that by then he will be old enough for neutering as well!), but I would only take it as far as that unless they really get on well. Some trios actually do, especially when all three boys are on the laid back side or at least two of them are, but your chances are less than 50%.

We may seem rather snotty with our very restricted list of recommended rescues, but those are the ones that we can guarantee for you that you are in safe hands. Anybody can call themselves a rescue or a breeder without needing a licence, so you get a goodly number of the bad as well as the good, unfortunately. :(

I have since found out that the rescue bred and is over crowded, I felt bad about not doing my research into rescues, their web site was impressive. But, as another rescue, who alerted me to the fact the rescue i got my piggies from was 'bad', said, at least I got those 3 piggies out of there. Toffee died as a result of the overcrowded conditions, I had to have him PTS, but at least he did not die in the back of an overcrowded hutch. Treacle and Fudge are turning out to be lovely little piggies, who are still a bit skittish, but wheek when I walk into the room. So do Pigson and Teddy, but, those have only ever been loved - and Pigson has the belly to prove it!

Thank you for the advice.I dont think id like to take the risk. It would be sad to end up with 3 single boars! Charlie is 6 and Kevin is 4, I'm not sure how well they would take to a newbie. At least i no that Ollie enjoys being with the girls!

Having been the victim of a 'bad' rescue, who did not even take down my details, I would not say it seems snotty - it means research and reputation has been proven. I have had my fingers burnt - I will only ever use a recommended rescue now, even if it means driving 100s of miles.

Oh, Poor Toffee. And yes, atleast you saved them! I got Poppy and Sophie from a lady advertising on facebook. When i went round she had about 10 guinea pigs per hutch (no bigger than 4ft!) And she had loads of spare hutches just sitting there! I mentioned this and she said it was because she was having a change about. hmmm. She also said "they dont need hay this time of year. They get too hot! My sister also got 2 guinea pigs from her and we soon realised one was pregnant even though the piggie was only a baby itself! Sadly the baby died.:(

Ahh, bless! Poor piggies!

It is always sorry for the piggies that are left! the tricky bit is that by buying from there, you only encourage these people to go on and do the same to even more helpless animals. :(

You can always report places like that anonymously to the RSPCA, not that it will always have an effect. :(

PS: As Ollie is only three weeks old, it is worth to try him with your two boys; he will be much happier with having company and a daddy pig or two that can socialise and teach him properly.
Ollie should be still too young to upset the apple cart and you can take him out once he hits the hormones so he can go on and live with mum and sister.
Please ask for me for bonding tips for introducing babies when the time comes.

So it would be ok to put him with Kevin and Charlie for the first few months with out upsetting them? And he would be with mum sister and Sophie if he re joined the girls

In your case, it would be well worth trying, provided that your two boys are fully adult and stable in their relationship. Otherwise, a new intro can trigger a resurgence of the old dominance disputes and ultimately a fall-out.
