It’s been a tough few months (won’t bore you with it) but Hetty finally has the all clear so can be bonded with Bertie. He is a rescue aged about 1yr 4months. I’ve had him 6 weeks but the whole time Hetty has been isolating and unwell so they’ve been side by side with Perspex between. Tomorrow is the day! I’ve bonded lots of piggies over the year but this is my first boar sow mix. Very excited and nervous! Am aiming to have them in the bonding pen for as long as I can. Please keep fingers crossed. After all Hetty has been through I just want her to have a friend (plus Bertie is a sweetheart)

Fingers very firmly crossed

They’ve been in the bonding pen for 5 hours now. Lots of mounting each other, chasing, rumbling and popcorning. The odd chin up but that’s all so far. Have laid down lots and have eaten tonnes of hay together and a bit of veg. No aggression that I’ve seen and I’ve been watching almost all the time so am hoping it carries in well when they go in a freshly cleaned cage. Poor Bertie needs a wash after the amount of time Hetty has sprayed wee at him despite it mostly being her running after him 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

Sounds good. If Hetty has allowed Bertie to mount her and he hasn't minded being pee sprayed it sounds good. I hope they can become firm friends and live together as Husboar and wifey.

A few days in now and both have settled really well. Often choosing to eat together. Bertie is still rumbling a lot but mostly just around the cage then lays down or popcorns off. Both of them are popcorning. Have checked both for injuries and we are all ok and both weights are stable. So am hoping they’ll be best buddies soon.
